This course introduces students to the systematic design of instruction. The course
provides an overview of a number of different instructional design models to give
students a sense of the variety of approaches to instructional design. It offers
numerous opportunities to see how these instructional design models are applied. The
culminating project is for students to design their own instructional design model and
apply that to an educational learning environment.

Design Based Research, University of Cincinnati 2014 - 2018

Design-based research is a research approach that systematically investigates teaching
and learning through multiple cycles of design, development, evaluation and
implementation of educational interventions. This course will cover ways to assess
effectiveness of the learning environment as well as its underlying framework within a
specific context. It will provide students with practical experiences of critiquing
literature, analyzing design-based methods, and engaging in some practical research
exercises. The course will culminate in students preparing a proposal to conduct their
own design-based research study.
Learning Sciences and Technology, University of Cincinnati 2008 - 2018
This course provides a fundamental understanding of learning sciences, an
interdisciplinary field dedicated to studying learning and how learning may be
facilitated in designed environments. Students design a technology-based learning
environment and conduct an evaluation of the embedded theories in an existing
environment of their choice, such as digital media, games, or other innovative
technologies.
Educational Technology, University of Cincinnati 2007 - 2016
This undergraduate course encompasses effectively analyzing, designing, developing,
implementing, and evaluating educational technology as an instructional resource in
the classroom as related to principles of learning and assessment. Students develop
increased classroom communication and management skills through discussions,
modeling, laboratory experiences, and completion of a comprehensive project.
Teaching with Technology, University of Cincinnati 2010 - 2017
This course provides an overview of the increasingly complex array of digital media
and technology-based resources available for use in blended and online environments.
Students will apply theory to practice to truly redefine lessons to enhance learning
through technology. Students will also learn practical skills, ranging from facilitation
skills needed to manage a technology-based class to troubleshooting technology
problems. The course also explores burning issues surrounding educational technology
such as inequalities and accessibility issues, technology distractions, internet safety,
and other ethical issues.
Advanced Multimedia Studio, University of Cincinnati 2009 - 2011
This is an advanced graduate course where students apply their multimedia skills from
earlier courses to develop “real” educational multimedia projects for clients. Students
work independently or in groups. Class functions as a studio where students
participate in workshops, share their work, collaborate with peers, and obtain
assistance from the instructor. This course is designated as a Service Learning course.
The focus of the most recent course was on games and simulations.
Assistive Technology in Special Education, University of Kentucky 2005
This course taught students how to design appropriate educational programs utilizing
instructional and assistive technologies. Students learned how to select appropriate
adaptive devices/strategies, employ their use in an educational setting, and identify
professionals who develop and support these selections.
