FIELD TRIP JOURNAL

It is the second time of the College of Engineering in conducting a field trip for graduating
students this year. It is to build camaraderie and let the students expose to the fields related to
engineering. This year’s field trip was conducted in four different locations: Clark City, Pampanga,
Batangas, Laguna, and Manila.

November 5, 2018:

Departure time was at 9 pm. Our mode of transportation was air conditioned bus. There were
five buses, one per section and there were two instructors assigned per bus.

November 6, 2018:

First stop was at the Clark, Pampanga. It is a 9,450 hectares land area which is the venue of the
upcoming 2019 Sea Games. According to the speaker, the construction phase consists of five different
parts. The first one is the Government Building which will house the integrated operations center with a
capacity of 3,000 government employees. Second is the Athletic Stadium, third is the Aquatic Center and
lastly is the Athletic Village which can accommodate 1,000 athletes. It is a government project of BCDA.

We wore hard hat and safety vest as a minimum requirement for the site visit. Safety was then
the priority so they did not allow us to go near the construction areas.

After the visit, we checked in at Bayview Park Hotel located at Manila. It is a 3-star hotel with
complete amenities.

November 7, 2018:

At the second day of the tour, we went to Philippine Ports Authority. It is government- owned
and controlled corporation under the Department of Transportation and Communications as an
attached agency. It is responsible for financing, management and operations of public ports throughout
the Philippines.

They conducted seminar about ports. Speakers discussed about their strategies on management
of ports, its functions, parts, processes and many more. Also, they discussed the difference between
warps, ports and piers. We had also the opportunity to view the beautiful sea port and we took pictures
as remembrance of the place.

After the visit, we went to Technological University of the Philippines which is located at Ayala
Boulevard, Ermita, Manila. They prepared a short program and they presented their status and also their
strategies in attaining their current performance.

They also guided us and showed their different facilities such as their old Universal Testing
Machine (UTM), Direct and Tri-axial testing machines.

November 8, 2018:

We went to San Pioquinto, Malvar, Batangas where a Pre-stressing firm located. This firm’s
product is C-joist, a pre-cast, pre stressed concrete product used for floor and roof slab system. It is a
concrete product with 5,500 psi. and with a pre-tensioned tendons as its reinforcements. It is applicable
to economically-friendly structures.

After the visit, we have stopped at the National Shrine Of Saint Padre Pio Batangas to meditate
and pray. It is located at Sto. Thomas, Batangas.

Checked-in at Caliraya Resort Club. It is located at Lumban, Laguna. We arrived at the island
with a short ferry ride.

November 9, 2018:

This day we built our teamwork and trust among our classmates through a team building
activity. We also experienced activities such as canoeing, puzzle hunt and rapelling. It is worth
remembering because we enjoyed every moment of it.
