SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
For the latest system requirements information and to learn about specific qualified system configurations, go to the System Requirements page
in the Geomagic Support Center. Some users have had success running system configurations that deviate from the supported listed on our
website. In such cases, these configurations are not officially supported by 3D Systems, Inc.
Additionally, we test a variety of hardware platforms in combination with the graphics subsystems. While we make every attempt to be as
thorough as possible, hardware manufacturers change their products frequently and may be shipping newer products or have discontinued
active support for others. Check the support section of the website for the latest system requirement information and specific qualified systems.

DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL SOFTWARE

You can download and install the software from gettingstarted.geomagic.com, select the Geomagic for SOLIDWORKS product, then select to
download Geomagic for SOLIDWORKS.
In addition, you can check if a newer version is available by going to Settings > Check For Updates. The application will check if a newer version
is available and then provide you a link you can download.
Note: Geomagic for SOLIDWORKS is available in SOLIDWORKS 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017.

ACTIVATE LICENSE
Geomagic for SOLIDWORKS requires license activation to run the application on your PC. You can choose to use an evaluation license for a 15-
day period or activate a permanent license by using an Online Activation license.
After you start your application, the License Utility window opens. The License Utility allows you to activate and use the Geomagic for Software
application.
NOTE: When you launch the License Utility, you can click the Help button to read the Licensing Guide.
You should have received an email from 3D Systems with your activation code. If you have not received an email from 3D systems, contact them
at Geomagic.Support.Americas@3DSystems.com.
If you are an existing user and have already activated the license on your PC with the previous version of the application, you can run the newer
version of the application without re-activating the license.

3 NEW FEATURES AND ENHANCEMENTS

WHAT’S NEW IN 2017.0.0

SOLIDWORKS 2017
Geomagic for SOLIDWORKS is now available in SOLIDWORKS 2017.

Probing Device Alignment

Added a new Orient Device tool to support reorienting the coordinate systems of your probing device. The Orient Device tool allows you to
orient the coordinate system of your probing device to the World Coordinate System, a custom coordinate system, or a local coordinate system
of an existing model within the application. This tool is also available while probing a large object.

See Scanning and Probing an Object > Using Probing > Orienting Device in the Geomagic for SOLIDWORKS Help for more information.

Improvements to Sketching from Scan Data
Many Improvement to UI/UX were made to improve modeling workflow.
The following are key improvements for Sketching in this release:

• Prefixes have been added to Cross-Section Sketches

• Cross-Sections can now be anchored
• All Cross-Sections can now be projected into a single sketch plane and used for various purposes

The Faro Cobalt Array Imager support

Geomagic for SOLIDWORKS now supports the FARO Cobalt Array Imager.
The FARO Cobalt Array Imager is a high performance non-contact 3D imaging system, capable of collecting millions of points in just seconds.
Using blue-light projection technology, the FARO Array Imager achieves high accuracy point cloud data on parts, assemblies, and tools for
inspection and reverse engineering applications.
The FARO Cobalt Array Imager is available by selecting Faro 3D Imager under the Capture Devices options section in the Settings. See
Configuring Settings in the Geomagic for SOLIDWORKS Help for more information.

WHAT’S NEW IN 2016.0.0
User Interface Enhancements

Product Name
The Geomagic Capture for SOLIDWORKS has been renamed to Geomagic for SOLIDWORKS to not only support commands for 3D scanning,
but also offer various possibilities for reverse engineering.

Improved Ribbon UI
The new Ribbon Interface has been improved to support a more intuitive and effective work environment. The commands are reorganized into
work groups by considering your modeling processes. Each group relates to a type of design activity, such as importing or scanning data,
preparing data for feature modeling, converting to solids, and analyzing results. The command icons have also been redesigned for a better look.

1. Importing or Scanning Data A. Importing Scan Data B. Scanning and Probing an Object
E. Preparing Watertight
2. Preparing Data for Feature Modeling C. Aligning Scan Data D. Exploring Point Clouds
Polygon Object
F. Creating Reference
3. Converting to Solids G. Extracting Design Intent H. Creating Features

4. Analyzing Results I. Analyzing Deviation J. Showing

New dialog of Orient Mesh command

The options in the Orient Mesh command have been reorganized. You can now intuitively define a local coordinate system on a mesh and
orient the mesh into a target coordinate system. See “Orient Mesh” in the Geomagic for SOLIDWORKS Help for more information.

3D Systems, Inc. 5
New Commands

Auto Surfacing
The Auto Surface tool is now available in this version. The Auto Surface command enables you to quickly create a 3D NURBS surface model that
entirely covers a target mesh. See “Auto Surfacing” in the Geomagic for SOLIDWORKS Help for more information.

Mechanical Part Organic Part

Reference Plane and Axis

The Reference Plane and Axis can now be created from a mesh object. You can now use the created reference planes or axes as reference
geometries in a creation of several kinds of features. For example:

• A Plane is used to define an extrusion direction of feature.

• An axis is used in a revolution or a circular pattern.
See “Creating a Reference Plane” or “Creating a Reference Vector” in the Geomagic for SOLIDWORKS Help for more information.

Region Controls

Preview in Regions Detection

A new Detailed Preview button has been added in the Regions command. You can now adjust option values by previewing results. See
“Detecting Regions” in the Geomagic for SOLIDWORKS Help for more information.

Manual Regions Editing

A new Region Editing tools have been added in the Regions command. You can now split or merge regions as you desired. See “Detecting
Regions” in the Geomagic for SOLIDWORKS Help for more information.

Temporary Folder for Scanning

Improved to better support sustainable scanning process using Geomagic Capture 3D scanner. In Geomagic Capture application, you can now
set the path of a temporary folder where temporary files are stored during the scanning. For more information, click Help from the Geomagic
Capture plug-in to open the Geomagic Capture User’s Guide.

3D Systems, Inc. 6
Deviation Analysis
A new Spectrum option group has been added in the Deviation Analysis command. You can now adjust the minimum or maximum values of
critical and tolerance range in the Colorbar. The display method for the deviation color has also been improved for clarity of the deviation
analysis. See “Analyzing Deviation” in the Geomagic for SOLIDWORKS Help for more information.

Miscellaneous Enhancements
• Improved to keep a command until all calculations are done.
• Improved to use the disk space dynamically when loading Geomagic for SOLIDWORKS Add-In on SOLIDWORKS.
• Added a new Check for Updates button in the Settings to allow you to check for available updates.
