SOCIAL WORKERS
Overview
TPO Uganda is a rights based non-governmental organization which has been
operating in Uganda since 1994, specializing in mental health, psychosocial support,
sexual, child protection, gender based violence and peace building in post-conflict
settings and humanitarian emergencies.

Our mission is to; work in partnership with communities’, civil society, private sector
and government to empower communities improve their mental health and
socioeconomic wellbeing in a sustainable way.

TPO Uganda is a UNHCR and UNICEF implementing partner and we have secured
funding from UNICEF Fund to End Violence Against children (EVAC) to implement
violence prevention and response interventions targeting refugee and host communities
children in Adjumani, Arua, Lamwo, Moyo and Yumbe Districts.

Purpose of the position


The Social Worker will be responsible for delivering all planned interventions to
communities targeted in these districts. You will ensure that you leave behind a strong
child protection system in the location where you will be working. You will work in
children friendly spaces; conduct home visits, as well as case management. You will
receive additional training in delivery of advanced psychosocial interventions, child
protection and working in the areas of preventing violence against children.

Duty station:
We encourage local qualified candidate domiciled in the following districts to apply.
Female Social Workers are particularly encouraged to apply as well.

Key Responsibilities:
o To carry out assessment on the targeted clients for intervention
o To design and maintain a record of intervention for psychosocial and mental health
services and psychotherapies
o Plan and implement project activities that contribute to the attainment of project
objectives and outputs.
o Contribute to psychosocial support and trauma healing to the children and
community affected by conflict.
o Facilitate community mechanisms for referral of cases from within the community for
support.
o Strengthen the capacity of community support structures to identify and support
communities in need.
o Manage and oversee the administrative functions of duty station.
o Establish and strengthen coordination at the settlement level and develop
partnerships with other service providers.

Academic background, experience and person specifications:


o Bachelor’s degree in Social work, Public Administration, Community psychology,
Counseling, Development studies, Public Health,
o At least 3 years working practical experience in providing psychosocial support
interventions.
o Ability to work with both formal and informal community organizations in emergency
setting.
o Ability to interact and facilitate community groups
o Effective interpersonal skills - oral and written communication skills
o Strong planning and organizational skills, a self-motivated and dependable person.
