Infinitive Phrases as Subjects


Replace the word this in one sentence with an infinitive phrase made from
the other sentence in italics. (Where possible, use anticipatory it also.)

1. Come home at once.


This is necessary.
It is necessary for you to come home at once.
2. He wrote me a nasty letter.
This was insulting (=rude).
For him to write me a nasty letter was insulting.

3. He came here at a busy time.
This is inconsiderate.

Change the italicized adjective clauses into infinitive phrases.

Infinitive Phrases Instead of Adverbial Clauses


Change the italicized adverbial clauses into infinitive phrases.
