LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH – GRADE 7

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
1. identifying connotations and denotations
2. make samples of literal meaning or suggestive meaning of a word; and
3. use denotation and connotation in a sentence.

Topic: Deepening My Beliefs (Denotation and Connotation)

1. Review. Read each sentence carefully. Identify the phrase modifier and the word it
modifies.
a. Tall and handsome, the mysterious stranger looked like a movie star.
b. Upon hearing the news, Rebecca responded immediately.
c. Working overtime, we finished the project by the deadline.
d. Before she became ill, Claire enjoyed a comfortable, satisfying life.
e. Using the computer, I finished the report in two days.

2. Words to Explore. Students will match the underlined words in column A with their
meanings in Column B.

1. Inductive Method. Post examples of Denotations and Connotations.
a. Each group of sentences contains Denotations/Connotations.
b. Students will be task to identify whether it is Denotation or a
Connotation
 Those who look at the bright side of life are optimist.
 Please give me a hand in lifting this table.

c. Flash more sentences on the board. Let them classify whether the
sentence contains denotation meanings or connotations. Call a
volunteer to write the answer.
 The Legislative branch of the government is assigned to make
laws for the good of the people.
 The team has a very slim chance of winning the basketball
game.

E. Application.
Students will read carefully the following meaning of words. They will then tell
whether it is connotation or denotation.

1. She has a blurred vision because of her diabetes.

2. The school’s vision- mission is timely.
3. My mentor received a long-stemmed rose during her b-day.
4. Vanessa was the only rose among the seven contestants.
5. Our school rector has a good heart.
6. The heart is a major organ of the circulatory system.
7. We are expecting guests from schools in Visayas and Mindanao.
8. Some unexpected guest barged in and stole the money from the vault.
9. Hannah has a lovely face
10 Be man enough to face the consequences of your action.

IV. Assessment. Quiz

Students will be task to answer the questions provided by the teacher.(Write "D" if it
pertains to the literal meaning of the word. Write "C " if it is implied).

V. Assignment
Students will be assign to give 5 examples each (Connotation and Denotation)
