Researcher: GLORIA A. VIDENA & MARIBEL C. LAQUI

Date: May 2016

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of remedial reading with the use

of information and communication technology in reducing the number of non-readers in

Kaong Elementary School.

Specifically, this study sought to answer the following questions:

1. What Information and Communication Technology (ICT) resources are being used by

the teachers conducting the remedial teaching?

2. How often do they conduct remedial reading using Information and Communication

Technology (ICT)?

3. How effective is the remedial reading using the ICT resources in lowering the number

of non-readers?
METHODOLOGY

This study used the descriptive methodology in interpreting the research resuslts.

The respondents of the study involved a total number of 50 or 23.81% of the total

number of Grade II pupils enrolled at Kaong Elementary School during the school year

2015-2016. The respondents include 9 pupils from Grade I Magalang – A, 11 pupils from

Grade I – Magalang B, 14 pupils from Grdae I- Magalang – C and 16 pupils from Grade I

– Magalang – D.

For analyzing data, the researcher used frequency count and percentage to

identify the available ICT resources and how often they used them during the conduct of

the remedial reading.

FINDINGS

The common Information and Communication Technology (ICT) resources being

used by the teachers in conducting the remedial teaching are laptop with internet

access, portable CD player, and tablet/ipad.

Most of the teachers conducting remedial teaching used Information and

Communication Technology (ICT) thrice a week.

The used of ICT resources in lowering the number of non-readers isvery effective

in lowering the number of non-readers in Kaong Elementary School.

CONCLUSIONS

The researcher concluded that the use of ICT preferably laptop with internet, ipad

or tablet and portable CD player in conducting remedial reading highly motivates the

pupils to learn how to read and therefore is an effective tool in reducing the number of

non-readers.

RECOMMENDATIONS

The researcher recommends the use of ICT thrice a week in conducting remedial

reading since it motivates the learners to read easily and helps in reducing the number

of non-readers.
