2000 years ago, in a small village in Nazareth, lived Joseph, a carpenter who married a beautiful
young woman named Mary. Shortly after their marriage, the young wife had a dream. In that dream, an
angel came to see her and give her some incredible news; she was going to have a child, the Son of God, and
his name was Jesus. Nine months later, Herod, the King of Israel asked all the people to go to their
hometown to be counted in a census. Joseph and Mary had to travel to Bethlehem and Jesus was born there.
His little palace was a stable with animals. The first people who saw Jesus were the local shepherds. They
came because angels told them that Jesus was born. When Jesus was a few months old, the three wise men
came to visit him. Guided by the new star, they brought gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
Hearing that a new King was born, Herod decided to kill all the boys under two years old in
Bethlehem. But Joseph and his family escaped to Egypt. There they waited safely until Herod died. Then
they returned to Nazareth where Jesus grew up.
