D. Discussion

Let’s define Prefix.______ you read

the definition of Prefix. A Prefix is a word added to the beginning of a
root word.

It is so clear that a prefix is a syllable

or a word part added to a root word.
What do you think will happen to a
word if you will add a prefix? When a prefix is added to a root word, the
meaning of it will be change.

Very good idea. Let us check if the

meaning of a word will change if we
add prefix.

Now, we are going to tackle 4 basic

prefixes such as un-, im-, dis-, and re-.
Are you ready?

Great! Let’s start with prefix “un”.

The meaning of this word is “not”. Let
us take an example and use it in a Yes Ma’am!
sentence in order for us to understand.
Here’s an example, unbelievable. In
unbelievable the root word is?

Very good!
Lebron James’ shots were Ma’am “believable”.
unbelievable. What does it means?

Yes. What will happened to the root

word when the prefix “un” was Lebrons’ shots were not believable.
attached?

Exactly! Will you give a word with a
suffix un-?Yes_____.
Ma’am unhappy.

Very good. Use unhappy in a sentence

______.
The King was unhappy.

Very good! It means that the king was

what? Unhappy.
Yes. Let’s proceed to the prefix im-.
The prefix im- also means not or no.
For example, “impossible” meaning,
not possible. Will you give
example_____?
Ma’am “immortal”

Very good! Will you please use it in a

sentence_____?
Zeus is immortal.
Thank you. Another prefix is dis-. It is
also like un- and im- which mean not
or no.

Let us proceed to the prefix “re-“.

This prefix means “again”. And
there’s no other prefix than “re”.
For example, rebuild.

What is the root word? Ma’am “build”.

Very good! Bryan rebuilds his house.

It means that? Yes_____?
Bryan build his house again.

Exactly. Will you give example____?

Ma’am rewrite.

Very good. Now, let us move on to the

suffixes. Suffix is a syllable or word
that is added to the end of the root
word. Example of suffix is “-ed”
If you add –ed to a word
jump(jump+ed=jumped) it means, it
was already happened in the past.
Will you give example_____?

Cooked.
Very good. So what is the root word? Ma’am cook.

Yes. Will you use it in a

sentence_____?
My mother cooked our lunch yesterday.

Thank you.

Another example of a suffix is –er.

It is added when the word is a person
or when we are comparing.
Example are painter, singer, bigger,
stronger and so on.

Will you give example and use it in a

Taller. Jim is taller than Mark.
sentence_____?

Very good! It means that?

Jim’s height is higher than of Mark.

Very good. Do you understand our

topic? Yes Ma’am.

Let’s move on to our activity.

Game”. I need 2 representatives from
girls and 2 representatives from boys .
For your instructions, I have here 3
affixes and if a certain prefix or suffix
comes up, you will take turns giving a
word which has that prefix/suffix. You
will keep giving words until someone
cannot think a word. The last person
to give a word scores appoint. The
group with the highest score wins the
game. Are the instructions clear?

Let’s start. Yes Ma’am.

The students do the activity.

So the winner is the boys! Give them
Yes clap!

D. GENERALIZATION The students do the yes clap.

the beginning of the root word.

of Suffix?
Suffix is a syllable or word that is added to
the end of the root word.

or understand the meaning of the word or its
usage in the sentence.

Very good! With prefix and suffix, we

can easily understand if the word is
positive or negative.
Take note that there are a lot of suffix
