Chapter 1. Overview

Lenovo Settings (new in May 2018) provides a user interface for changing hardware settings on Lenovo
PCs. Lenovo Settings is intended for enterprise environments where Lenovo Vantage may not be
appropriate or desired.

Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Vantage cannot be installed on the same PC. You must choose one or the
other. The following table lists all of the features of each application, to help you decide which
application is appropriate for your specific environment.

The following software components are required to deploy Lenovo Settings:

Lenovo Settings – the application. This is installed as an application

package using an AppxBundle.

Lenovo System Interface Foundation – a collection of services and

drivers that enables the features of Lenovo Settings. This is installed as a
desktop application using an EXE.
Chapter 2. Installation/Deployment

Lenovo has prepared a batch file (setup.bat) which can be used to install and configure the
complete Lenovo Settings deployment. The installation procedure is complex, so whenever
possible, Lenovo recommends to use this batch file as-is.

What the batch file does:

1. Install verisign-issued Intermediate and Root certificates which are required to validate the
signatures on LSIF components. Typically, these certificates are automatically downloaded and
installed by Windows 10. However, in an offline MDT or SCCM deployment, where the
Microsoft certificate server is not accessible, it is necessary to install the certificates offline.
2. Install the Lenovo Settings application
3. Apply a registry configuration to disable LSIF plugins that are not related to Lenovo Settings.
Since LSIF also supports Lenovo Vantage, it includes many plugins that support Lenovo Vantage
features. These plugins, listed in DisableNonSettingsPlugins.reg, should be disabled for a Lenovo
Settings deployment.
4. Install the Microsoft Visual C++ redistributables
5. Install the LSIF main service
6. Install the LSIF subscription file for Lenovo Settings
7. Install the LSIF plugins for Lenovo Settings

At the end of installation, the PC must be rebooted.

Chapter 3. Considerations for Deployment

LSIF includes the capability to update itself automatically. Some IT administrators will want to disable
this. To do so, use the following registry entry (see DisableAutoUpdate.reg). This registry entry can be
applied prior to deploying Lenovo Settings and LSIF.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Lenovo\ImController]

"DisableAutoupdate"="1"
Chapter 4. FAQ

Q1: Is Lenovo Settings available in the Windows Store?

A1: No, it is only available on Lenovo website.

Q2: Does Lenovo Settings self-update?

A2: No, but Lenovo System Interface Foundation (LSIF) does. To disable this, see chapter 3 of this
document.

Q3: Does Lenovo Settings require internet access?

A3: Currently, yes. You must be connected to internet the first time you run Lenovo Settings. You do
not have to be connected to internet after this.
