INTRODUCTORY NOTES TM

PROTECTING THE FUTURE... TODAY!

The SFLP 221 (Solvent Free, Low Pressure 2:1)

machine is a variable ratio and variable flow rate
machine.

The capabilities of this machine outweigh high

pressure machines as the ratio can be controlled by
adjusting the speed of each pump individually and thus
as temperatures, volume and densities change
throughout operating conditions and from material to
material the flow rate can be adjusted to accommodate
these factors or changes.

The ratio can easily be tuned-in by recording the

settings of the potentiometers for future operation at
desired flow rates. The potentiometers are the two
dials on the control panel under the temperature
controllers. Once a desired flow rate has been
determined by the operator a ratio check should be
performed to make sure the machine is producing a
flow ratio within 5 grams of the ratio desired. The ratio
of the product is usually found on the label and the TDS
of the material.

Operating the machine from one day to the next with

the same desired flow rate and material may enable
the operator to eliminate some of the steps mentioned
in the start-up procedure, such as the adjustment of
the potentiometers and temperature controllers. They
may be able to start up and jump right to recycle with a
quick ratio check once the material is up to temp. Ratio
checks should only be carried out when the material is
at the desired processing temperature. See material
TDS for proper processing temperatures.

6
INTRODUCTORY NOTES TM

PROTECTING THE FUTURE... TODAY!

When storing the machine for more than 3 days make

sure to flush the Part "A" (ISO) side with plasticizer and
bring the plasticizer up to temp to ensure that all the
ISO (prepolymer) has been removed.

For new machines, there will be oil in the pumps and

components and this should be flushed out with
plasticizer on both the Part "A" side and Part "B" side
before material is run through the machine. The
plasticizer is not run through the machine at the
factory.

INITIAL START UP / WET OUT PROCEDURE TM

PROTECTING THE FUTURE... TODAY!

CAUTION: Use in a well ventilated area. The use of

fresh air breathing system is recommended, protective
clothing, safety glasses and gloves must be worn while
using the SFLP machine. An organic type respirator is
recommended even in ventilated areas. The use of a
full face respirator is recommended with peel-off
lenses to allow proper vision while spraying. Supplied
air apparatus must be used in confined space
applications.

SFLP-221 Operational Instructions

Initial Start-Up
Procedure

Hook up the electrical

connection. This
should be carried out
by a qualified
electrician.

Hook up the air supply

to the air line at the machine.

Make certain both potentiometers are turned all the

way counter- clockwise to read zero.

Turn the recycle switch to spray (so

that the gun operates the pumps.)

Turn on the main power.

Set the temperature controllers to

32°C (90°F).

10
INITIAL START UP / WET OUT PROCEDURE TM

PROTECTING THE FUTURE... TODAY!

Remove the tank lids. It is recommended that the tank

lids are left off while flushing and processing or vented
if on the tanks to prevent cavitation in the pumps.

Add virgin flushing solution (plasticizer) to both tanks

until each tank is half full. Do not use solvents in the
SFLP machine.

Open the two supply valves (ball valves) located under

the tanks.

Open the recycle valves located near the top of the

tanks.

Turn the Recycle switch to recycle.

Turn up the potentiometers on both the Part "A" side

and the Part "B" side to around half (5 full revolutions).

The pumps should be rotating. You can check this by

looking through the casing, located between the
electric motors and the blue colored pumps.

The flushing solution will move through the system and

wet out the supply system, pumps, presure switches
and recycle loop.

Do not raise the temperature on either hose

Raise the temperature on both tanks to 66°C (150°F).

This will allow the flushing solution to loosen the oils in
the pumps and fill cavities in the system.

Recycle this material for 1/2 an hour.

11
OPERATIONS / SPRAY PROCEDURE TM

PROTECTING THE FUTURE... TODAY!

Stop the flow by turning the recycle switch to Process.

Close the recycle valves located near the top of the

tanks.

Take the gun in hand and hold it over a pail that will be
used for scrap.

Open the two

processing valves
located on the gun.

Pull the trigger and

drain the flushing
solution out of the
entire system. It will
take some time for
the material to travel
through the hose as it
has not yet been wet out.

Once the system is empty, let go of the trigger and

close the processing valves.

Repeat the above process once more to ensure that all

contamination has been removed.

After the second round of flushing, turn down the tank

temperature and turn the main power off. wipe out the
tanks. The machine is now ready for material
processing.

At this stage the machine has never had material in it

so it will not require flushing solution in it for storage if

the machine will not be used at this moment.

Start Up, From Storage

• Make certain both potentiometers are turned all the

way counter-clockwise to read zero
• Turn the recycle switch to spray (so that the gun
operates the pumps)
• Turn on the main power.
• Set the temperature controllers to 32°C (90°F).
• Open the Part "B" recycle valve to drain any
pressure. (and leave open)
• Turn up the Part "A" potentiometer for a flow rate
that will move the cool material. It can be increased
as the material starts moving.
• Open the Part "A" valve on the gun and hold the gun
over a pail. (this will be the stored plasticizer)
• Pull the trigger to pump out the Plasticiser from the
Part "A" side.
• Empty the Part "A" side completely.
• Close the part "A" valve on the gun.
• Wipe out the Part "A" tank completely with a clean
rag / wiper.
• Fill the tank ½ full with Part "A" (make sure it is
conditioned / hot).
• Adjust the Part "A" Tank Temperature controller to
79°C (175°F).
• Open the Part "A" valve at the gun and pump Part
"A" through the system.
• Close the Part "A" valve at the gun.
• Add Part "A" to the tank (2/3 of the tank should be
the level as the ratio has to be checked so do not
overfill the tanks).
• Hold a cup under the recycle outlet in the Part "A"

13
OPERATIONS / SPRAY PROCEDURE TM

PROTECTING THE FUTURE... TODAY!

tank.
• Open the Part "A" recycle valve
• Turn the recycle switch and pump out any residual
plasticizer in the recycle system.
• Pull cup away when Part "A" is present and
continue to recycle.
• Turn up Part "A" hose temperature controller to
77°C (170°F).
• Turn both potentiometers to a starting point. This is
a setting that you have used previously for a
desired flow rate. If you have no previous flow rate,
a good starting point would be, 3 revolutions on the
"A" and the same on the "B". The SFLP 221 is built
for the largest range of flow rates using a 2:1 ratio
material system. That is why the potentiometers
are set very closely.
• While recycling place both cups under the flow at
the exactly the same time and let them fill.
• Weigh the cups and decide whether or not the ratio
needs to be adjusted.
• The weight ratio for the NR-80LVHS and NR-95
LVHS is 100:47. To figure out the ratio easily weigh
the Part "A" cup and multiply that weight by .47, the
sum will equal the weight that the Part "B" should
be at.
• If the ratio needs to be adjusted, adjust and repeat
the cup test until the desired ratio is set.
• When the material temperature has reached it's set
point, turn the recycle switch to spray.
• Close the recycle valves on the tanks.
• Install a static mixing tube on the gun, ensure there
is no cured material on the nose of the gun.
• Open the valves on the gun
• Set the atomizing air flow.

14
OPERATIONS / SPRAY PROCEDURE TM

PROTECTING THE FUTURE... TODAY!

• Pull the trigger and spray off the work for a few
seconds then come onto the work. DO NOT
TRIGGER THE MATERIAL FLOW, YOU WILL
GET OFF-RATIO MATERIAL
• Spray off the work before letting go of the trigger.
• Close the valves on the gun
• Open the recycle valves on the tanks
• Turn the recycle switch to recycle

Overnight Shut Down

• Turn temperature down to 27°C (80°F)

• Place lids on tanks and apply nitrogen to the "A"
tank if possible
• Place grease on the gun nose, where the material
exits.
• Turn off main power and air supply.
• The ratio may be left by not adjusting the
potentiometers for the next day.

Storage Shut Down

• Turn the recycle switch to process

• Open the Part "B" recycle valve to drain any
pressure.
• Turn up the Part "A" potentiometer to full (10) if the
material is still hot.
• Open the Part "A" valve on the gun and hold the gun
over a pail.
• Pull the trigger to pump out the Part "A" from the
Part "A" side. This is good material and can be
poured back into the drum / pail.
• Empty the Part "A" side completely.
• Let go of the trigger

15
OPERATIONS / SPRAY PROCEDURE TM

PROTECTING THE FUTURE... TODAY!

• Close the part "A" valve on the gun.

• Wipe out the tank completely.
• Fill the tank ½ full with Plasticizer
• Turn up Part "A" temperature controllers to 77°C
(170°F) for the Part "A" only.
• Open the Part "A" valve at the gun and pump
Plasticizer through the system.
• Close the Part "A" valve at the gun
• Add Plasticizer to ½ of the tank
• Hold a cup under the recycle outlet in the Part "A"
tank
• Open the Part "A" recycle valve
• Turn the recycle switch and pump out any residual
Part "A" in the recycle system.
• Pull cup away when Plasticizer is present and
continue to recycle.
• Recycle until the Plasticizer is up to temp and 10
minutes after.
• Repeat all the above until all the Part "A" is out of
the system completely. Usually twice is fine.
• Leave the machine with clean Plasticizer in it.
• Seal the lid with grease and grease the gun nose
