ENGINE ELECTRONIC GOVERNOR FUNCTIONS:-

The engine electronic governor consists of two functionally independent circuits:-
a. Gas generator rotational speed limiting circuit
b. Free Turbine over speed prevention circuit

a. GAS GENERATOR ROTATIONAL SPEED LIMITING CIRCUIT

Functions:- The gas generator rotational speed limiting circuit functions are:-

1. Limits the gas generator rotational speed at the takeoff power condition.
2. Limits Exhaust gas temperature at 885±5°c condition.
3. Limits the gas generator rotational speed at the contingency power condition
which is (1+0.2) % more than takeoff power.
4. Generators a control signal when the observed gas generator rotational speed
reaches a value which is by 3% smaller then takeoff power and removes the
signal when observed gas generator rotational speed reaches a value which is
by 5% smaller than the takeoff power.
b. FREE TURBINE OVER SPEED PREVENTION CIRCUIT
The function of free turbine over speed circuit is to shutdown the engine in case its free
turbine rotational speed reaches 118±2%

OPERATION:-
The gas generator circuit limits the engine gas generator RPM at takeoff power.
For this purpose engine electronic governor should know day takeoff power and engine
RPM, for this purpose a temperature, pressure and gas generator rotational speed
transducer are installed in the helicopter which gives input signals to engine electronic
governor. These signals are converted and compared in the gas generator circuit. As
the gas generator observed rpm reaches the preset rotational speed (takeoff rpm). The
gas generator circuit of the engine electronic governor produces a control signal which
goes to the FCU electrical actuator (ИM-47) which acts upon the FCU throttle valve to
limit the fuel supply to the combustion chamber, the engine rpm limit at the takeoff
power and is indicated in term of limiter light illumination installed in the cockpit.
In the power condition limiting system the engine electronic governor functions
integrally with the temperature regulator. If the EGT reaches 985±5°c, temperature
regulator gives input signal to engine electronic governor which produces a control
signal which goes to the FCU electrical actuator (ИM-47) which acts upon the FCU
throttle valve which stops further increase in fuel supply to the combustion chamber and
so that EGT limits at maximum 985±5°c.
Engine electrical governor also provide resetting of the gas generator rpm
limitation circuit at the contingency power condition and generators a control signal that
goes to FCU electrical actuator (ИM-47) which acts upon the FCU throttle valve to limit
the fuel supply to the combustion chamber, to limit the RPM by (1+0.2) % more than the
takeoff power and is indicated in term of limiter light illumination installed in cockpit in
order to take contingency power whenever following conditions exists:-
 Contingency switch is “ON”
 Both engine rpm difference 5 to 9%
 Gas generator RPM reaches by 1% below than take off, at this time contingency
power light comes “ON”
Engine electronic governor generates a control signal that goes to electrical actuator
MKT-163 when the observed gas generator rotational speed reaches a value which by
3% smaller than the takeoff power and removes the signal when observed gas
generator rotational speed reaches a value which is by 5% smaller than the takeoff
power which reduces the acceleration of the engine in above given RPM range.
