We’ve been in the hands of different foreign powers that colonize us for years

which I think leave significant developments that shaped our destiny today.

Those years under colonial rule put remarkable results to our bureaucracy. One
of these was during the Spanish regime in which they introduce religion to unite
Filipinos under one faith which is called Christianity. The state is one with the church in
delivering its mandate to the people. The leaders of the state if not influenced by the
friars are the friars itself. Religion was used for wealth and power of those friars which
is in accordance to the reason of Spanish exploration the God, Gold and Glory. Even
though religion was used for other purposes other than to draw people to God, it is now
among the key identity of the Filipinos. National development demands unity and unity
may be hard to achieve because we have different ideas and principles but in the name
of our faith we are united even the fact that we are geographically separated. National
development may also demand integrity and Godliness in public service and it is also
anchored in the values of Christianity. Religion could have used for vested interest but
could also be the path for national interest.

Another implication was shaped during the American period. Americans

introduced education if not for the purpose of curing ignorance but a tool rule. Yes at
those times people are ignorant and uneducated and the Americans were successful in
conditioning the minds of the Filipinos to patronize the Americans as the best in the
world through integrating the education system to our communities. English was used
as the medium of instruction and it is evident up to this day. Education now is one of the
thrust of public service and thanks to the American people. Filipinos are not behind in
terms of education, it spend billions for education purposes. Employment is one of the
national demands, competition at any forms becomes higher and we can deny the fact
that education somehow gives an edge. Education may have given us an edge against
other neighboring countries for we have produced competitive and best professionals
and skilled individuals, with this we can easily be employed here and abroad or attract
investors which contribute to the national interests.

It may be true that the beginning does not justify the end. There are things done
for the interest of the few but in the long run it turns to contribute for the good of the
many.
