PLANETARY COMBINATIONS
IN LAJITADHI AVASTHAS

There are six avasthas or planetary states in this classification. They are mainly defined by a planet that is in one of
the types of Deepthanadhi Avastha (see previous publication: "Avasthas - Planetary Dignities in Vedic Astrology" )
plus an additional planetary influence by aspect, association, yoga, etc. They are very unique combined planetary
situations, and several of them difficult to survey. The possible cases described by Parashara are the following:
1. Lajjita (Distressed): Planet located in houses 5 associated with Rahu, or Ketu, with the Sun and Saturn or
Mars. Parashara also mentions planetary locations in house 10 for this avastha. It indicates aversion to a divine
principle, loss of discernment, loss of a child as well as difficulties to conceive, interest in bad conversations and
apathy in relation to the positive things in life.
2. Mudita (Enchanted): Planet in Rasi Mitra (friend sign) in conjunction or receiving aspect of Jupiter or other
beneficial. It will mainly indicate material comforts, family happiness (wife and relatives), wisdom, understanding and
destruction of enemies. If the planet in question is behaving as a functional benefic, there is usually general well-
being in the house governed by it.
3. Garvita (Proud): Planet placed in Neecha (sign of exaltation) or Moolatrikona (special address). Cause happiness
through amenities and means for a normal development, there is usually skill in the arts, continuous financial gains
and, if it were ruling planets and / or inhabitants of the house 10, there may be professional prosperity.
4. Kshudhit : Planet in Rasi Satru (enemy sign) receiving aspect of enemy planet or in conjunction with Saturn. This
planetary state indicates fall due to pain and passion. There will be physical weakness when it comes to the Paka
Lagna (ruling planet of the ascendant), the Moon or the Sun. It increases the disturbances caused by enemies and
relatives, financial problems. In short, all this is expressed in an accentuated mental stress.
5. Trushit : Planet in Rasi Jala (water sign) receiving aspect of evil planet. If there is at the same time an aspect
emitted by a benefic planet, this avastha will be canceled. If it occurs, it usually results in sexual diseases, reproachful
behavior, loss of wealth due to collaborators or subordinates, moral and physical weakness. Decline of honor is
usually observed.
6. Kshobhit : Planet in conjunction with the Sun or a Maleficent, or receives the appearance of a planet that is
enemy to him and / or a temporary evil. This avastha translates into great hardships and a bad mood. Losses of
different order depending on the house inhabited and governed by said planet. Conflicts with authority and
government.
As you can see the effects indicated by the various Lajitadhi Avasthas are very specific and, according to my own
experience, should be evaluated along with other indications of the Rasi Chakra that corroborate the a priori indicated
by them. From my point of view, they should be taken into consideration as a "necessary but not sufficient condition"
so that the totality of what is indicated for each of them occurs in the personal future.

Example of Lajitadhi Avasthas

The example presented below, which for obvious reasons of discretion I expose under the pseudonym "Silra", was
contributed by a student who attended one of my introductory courses given some years ago. Therefore the source of
the natal data is reliable. In this nativity I found a case of Lajjita avastha "exact".
The native carried out two abortions in her youth and the year before I became aware of this case she had to
undergo an induced delivery of an advanced pregnancy of six months because the baby had died in her womb. In
Vedic astrology the presence of Mars in house five cohabiting with one of the nodes there is always indicative of
some type of inconvenience with the children, frequently associated with the physical and vital integrity of the same. If
we add to this the presence of the luminaries then, more than that, this avastha is confirmed. During the year 2008
this woman had to be admitted to a psychiatric clinic in Buenos Aires for an acute ezisophrenic condition, having to
be medicated and permanently supervised to date. It is important to note the last thing Parashara says: "apathy in
relation to the positive things in life" , since this, according to those who treated her, was the most outstanding feature
of her person.

On the other hand, in contrast to the chronological delay and the difficulty to conceive a child, it is worth mentioning the ease
with which they are presented with possibilities of establishing relationships as the two natural beneficial, Venus and Jupiter,
which in turn they also act favorably temporarily, by virtue of being the regents of houses II and VII, and IX and XII,
respectively, are located in the seventh house. These, which in themselves have angular force, because they are at 0º 01 'and 8º
10' of Libra, additionally have strength Baal (infant) and Kumar (young) within Baaladhi Avastha, indicating the ease with which
they have to manifest said planetary patterns in its evolution. But the fact that Venus is enemy of Jupiter, and this in turn inhabits
the sign governed by the first, it must be translated into a permanent disenchantment when it is noticed that Jupiter in that state
has to promise more than it can certainly fulfill. The state of Jupiter largely coincides with the Kshudhit avastha proposed by
Parasara in the fourth item of Lajjitadhi Avastha. By the way, we could also say that Saturn in fall, to be in Aries, from the first
house the seventh, finally indicating that it is the native herself who is against the possibility of establishing a satisfactory long-
term link by, if possible the expression, the asperities of character that typify it in its one-sidedness. The state of Jupiter largely
coincides with the Kshudhit avastha proposed by Parasara in the fourth item of Lajjitadhi Avastha. By the way, we could also say
that Saturn in fall, to be in Aries, from the first house the seventh, finally indicating that it is the native herself who is against the
possibility of establishing a satisfactory long-term link by, if possible the expression, the asperities of character that typify it in its
one-sidedness. The state of Jupiter largely coincides with the Kshudhit avastha proposed by Parasara in the fourth item of

Among those who cultivate a sort of contemporary astrology, the criterion of discarding the aphorisms, rules or evaluative
principles of astrality that our ancestors bequeathed to us, in addition to an abusive use of the so-called transpersonal planets,
replacing this inheritance by "free" interpretations "that aspire to discover things most of the time for nothing new, when you do
not equivocate. I understand that this example case shows the validity of the observations, casuistry through, that were timely
registered in the "Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra", which should be a wake-up call, like that of so many other examples, about the
need to put in context value what tradition has given us.
