CHAPTER I

Introduction

In choosing STEM strand you will have a better careers or jobs into the future, that’s why
some students want the STEM strand. In STEM major, Graduates have flexibility within their
profession to pursue multiple career paths. When a student graduates with a strong undergraduate
degree, she is preparing herself for any future changes in her chosen field. According to the
people we searched from the internet, they chose STEM strand because they wanted to be an
engineer. Engineers have high salary some of engineering jobs have $63,970 median starting
salary.

“STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific


disciplines – science, technology, engineering and mathematics – in an interdisciplinary and
applied approach.” In basic terms, it means there four areas are taught in a manner that combines
each one, to better equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in a career in
science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). A big component of preparing students for
STEM education is the ones presenting the information to the students in a meaningful and
effective way. Careers in STEM are constantly becoming available due to the innovations in
technology and within tech-related companies. To ensure success in a STEM related career,
students and educators must work together so that material is presented and understood in a
manner that can be applied to real-life experiences.
Statement of the Problem

The researcher aims to determine the

1. What are the reasons why did they choose stem strand
1.1 Wants to solve mathematical equations
1.2 Compatible in any kind of course
1.3 Wants to be an engineer

2. What are their motivations for choosing this course

1.2 Friends
1.3 Inspiration

Scope of Delimitation

This study focuses on the reasons of students in choosing student science, technology,
engineering, and mathematics or also called STEM. The researcher will search information and
interview about why junior high school students choosing STEM strand.

Significance of the Study

Students. This study will help the students because they will become sure if the STEM strand is
the right strand for them.

Teacher. The teachers can share it to their students, for them to know the difficulties on a STEM
strand.

Future Researchers. It will be helpful to the researchers in the future because if this is their
topic they can gather more informations
