Zero Hunger
Globally, one in nine people in the world today (815 million) are undernourished (Goal

Hunger has become a major problem that needs to be solved. People have to rethink how they
manage their food because there are others who don’t know where or when their next meal will
come.
Areas that suffer from droughts, flooding, and other natural disadvantages are difficult to
farm. The Middle East and North Africa are the world's most water-scarce regions and the
situation is worsening due to the impacts of conflict, climate change and economic downturn
(Solutions to Water). Also, developing countries don’t have the same resources as first world
countries, making farming and finding food sources a harder task. These hunger problems are
happening locally too. North Carolina has the 8th highest rate of food insecurity in the nation
(FACTSHEET). That means that there are homes that don’t have enough food to serve the entire
household.
It is now time to set goal targets to make sure that hunger issues are no longer a part of
our world. Increasing investments in less developed countries will help raise awareness and bring

more money to solve this problem. Ending hunger and forms of malnutrition would be the
ultimate goal target to achieve. Ensuring food sources are available for everyone would provide
relief to people who can’t afford their meals. These goals will set a basis for ending world
hunger.
To achieve these goals everyone must get involved. There are already organizations
dedicated to this. The UN has created a challenge called the “Zero Hunger Challenge” to get
people involved. Organizations and businesses can become participants in the Zero Hunger
Challenge by making a commitment to take action that will have a quantifiable impact (Join the

Doing simple things has an impact. Donating non perishable foods and unspoiled foods to
shelters and hunger relief organizations is always helpful. Also, shopping smart and requesting
smaller portions will save food that would otherwise be thrown away. If there are leftovers,
people should freeze them and eat them another time (Think.Eat.Save). Doing these little things
will add up and make a big difference. Ending world hunger would be an incredible
