Chapter 2
External Interfaces
The external interfaces of the ZXSDR R8881 are located on the bottom and side of the
chassis. The external interfaces of the R8881 DC and R8881 AC chassis are slightly
different.
Figure 2-1 shows the external interfaces on the R8881 DC chassis. Figure 2-2 shows the
external interfaces on the R8881 AC chassis.

Chapter 3
Indicators
The indicators on the ZXSDR R8881 panel indicates the operation status of the RRU. The
indicators are located on the side of the chassis, see Figure 3-1.

4.1 Protection Grounding Cable


Function
The protection grounding cable provides protective earth for the ZXSDR R8881.

External View
This cable is a 16 mm2 green-yellow cable. A TNR22-8 lug is crimped on both ends, see
Figure 4-1.

Note:
If there is an ODCPD1 or a PIMAC lightning protection box, end A of the protective
grounding cable is connected to the protective grounding interface of the ZXSDR R8881.
End B is connected to the ODCPD1 or PIMAC lightning protection box and then connected
to the grounding bar through the box.

4.2 Power Input Cable


DC Power Input Cable
Function
The DC power input cable provides the ZXSDR R8881 with -48V DC power.

Connection
End A is connected to the PWR interface of the ZXSDR R8881 and end B is connected to
a terminal of the power transit box.

AC Power Input Cable


Function
The AC power input cable provides the ZXSDR R8881 with 220 V or 110V AC power.

The R8881 AC power input cable is made on site in accordance with actual engineering
requirements.
External View

Figure 4-3 shows the external view of the AC power input cable.

4.3 Antenna Feeder Cable


Function
The antenna feeder cable connects the antenna feeder interface on the ZXSDR R8881
chassis to the main feeder, supporting transmitting and receiving of radio signals.

External View
This cable is an 1/2" RF cable (50Ω). A DIN connector is mounted on both ends, see
Figure 4-4.

None

Connection
l One end is connected to the ANT interface on the ZXSDR R8881 chassis.
l The other end is connected to the main feeder.

4.4 Optical Fiber Cable


Function
l Connects an RRU to a BBU.
l Connects two cascaded RRUs.
l Connects an RRU to an Optical Distribution Frame (ODF).

Note:
The optical fiber cables are classified into armored and non-armored optical fiber cables.
This section uses the armored optical fiber as an example.

External View
Optical fibers of the ZXSDR R8881 include:

l Optical fiber between the RRU and the BBU, see Figure 4-5.

Connection
l When the fiber is used to connect the RRU and BBU, one end of the fiber is connected
to the OPT1 port of the ZXSDR R8881 and the other end is connected to the optical
connector of the BBU.
l When the fiber is used for RRU cascading, one end of the fiber is connected to the
OPT2 port of the upper-layer ZXSDR R8881 and the other end is connected to the
OPT1 port of the lower-layer ZXSDR R8881.

l When the fiber is used to connect the RRU and the ODF, one end of the fiber is
connected to the OPT1 port of the ZXSDR R8881 and the other end is connected to
the optical connector of the ODF.

4.5 External MON Interface Cable


External MON Interface Cable
Function
The external MON interface cable supports the transmission of signals between the
ZXSDR R8881 system and external devices, including the transmission of RS485 control
signals and dry contact signals.
The MON interface can be bound with a power interface.
External View

Figure 4-8 shows the external view of the external MON interface cable.

End A is mounted with an 8-pin round plug. End B needs to be mounted with an
appropriate connector on site in accordance with the connector type of the external device
to be connected. The cable is a 10-core cable and the length is customized in accordance
with an engineering contract.

Connection
l End A is connected to the MON interface on the ZXSDR R8881 chassis.
l End B is connected to the RS485 MON interface or dry contact on an external
monitoring device .
l A pair of dry contacts can be combined as follows: brown/yellow, blue/white,
green/orange, or grey/purple.

AC Power and External MON Interface Combination Cable


Function
The combination cable is used for the AC RRU equipped with a lightning protection box.
External View

The power cable is combined with the monitoring cable to form a cable assembly. Figure
4-9 shows the external view of the combination cable.

Connection
l The MON interface is connected to the MON interface on the R8881 chassis.
l The PWR interface is connected to the PWR interface on the R8881 chassis.
l The blue wire of the combination cable is connected to the A interface of the dry
contact interfaces on a monitoring device.
l The white wire of the combination cable is connected to the B interface of the dry
contact interfaces on a monitoring device.
l The brown wire of the combination cable is connected to the Lout interface on the
PIMAC equipment.
l The blue wire of the combination cable is connected to the Nout interface on the
PIMAC equipment.
l The green-yellow wire of the combination cable is connected to the PE interface on
the PIMAC equipment.

4.6 AISG Control Cable


Function
The AISG control cable is used to send Antenna Interface Standards Group (AISG) control
signals to a Remote Electrical Tilt (RET) antenna that is connected to the ZXSDR R8881.

External View
An 8-pin aviation plug in compliance with IEC 60130-9-ED is mounted on both ends of the
AISG control cable, see Figure 4-10.

4.7 Carrier Sector Extension Cable


Function
The carrier sector extension cable is used to connect two ZXSDR R8881 cabinets to
increase the number of carrier sectors.

External View
Figure 4-11 shows the external view of the carrier sector extension cable. End A and End
B are N type male connectors.

None.

Connection
End A is connected to carrier sector extension interface RXin of the ZXSDR R8881. End
B is connected to carrier sector extension interface RXout of the other ZXSDR R8881.
