ART VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!! IMPORTANT DATES:

If you have a love of art or you love helping
children make art… we need you!! No art
background is needed, as you will be
trained. Art is done in the classroom on a
schedule you coordinate with the teacher.

Our classroom currently has no volunteers
to help with art. We are looking for both
assistants and leaders to help with art in
our classroom this year!

 ROOM 115 – CLASS NEWS
WHAT HAVE WE BEEN UP TO?
This week in math we are nearing the
end of Unit 2, which focuses on the area and
perimeter of triangles and quadrilaterals.
Students practiced converting between inches,
feet, and yards. Next week we will review and
test for this unit, then start Unit 3 which focuses
on addition and subtraction of whole numbers
and decimals.
We also finished work with our IB
Planner, titled The Human Machine. This week
we worked hard to collect research and began
putting together our projects. Next week
students will present them to the class and
reflect on this first unit of inquiry. Projects are
due on Tuesday, October 26.
Our spelling list the past two short
weeks has focused on contractions and a few
homophones. Students will now be able to
study a challenge list for the week if they get all
the words on the regular spelling list right on
the pretest. Pretests will now be given on
Fridays. Look for both lists in the homework
packet each week.
Other fun news from this week was
being invited to participate in the Great Mail
Race (see the box to the right). We look forward
to learning about all the states in the US.

FALL FUN
On Friday, October 29th fifth graders will be
having a Fall Fun Celebration. Students will get
to participate in different activities in the
afternoon that have a fall theme. Please
contact your child’s teacher if you are
interested in helping out that afternoon
(12:45-1:45pm). Costumes should NOT be
brought to school. We do encourage students
to wear our White Bear school colors (orange
and black) that day.
Fun at the Science Museum last
Wednesday!!  The Great Mail Race:
This week we received a letter from a 5th
grade class in Utah inviting us to
participate in the Great Mail Race. This
is a way for us to write letters to 5th
graders in every state, and to receive
letters back from around the country! 
We are excited about this project.
Each student will write a letter, which
should be completed over the long
weekend. Look for the blue homework
sheet explaining this, in today’s mail.
