Just-in-time (JIT) is an inventory strategy companies employ to increase efficiency and
decrease waste by receiving goods only as they are needed in the production process, thereby
reducing inventory costs. This method requires producers to forecast demand accurately.

It can be considered as the medical science of machines. Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)
is a maintenance program which involves a newly defined concept for maintaining plants and
equipment. The goal of the TPM program is to markedly increase production while, at the same
time, increasing employee morale and job satisfaction.

Green energy is energy that can be produced in a way that protects the natural environment,
for example by using wind, water, or the sun, is called green energy.
Renewable energy is Energy that is produced using the sun, wind, etc., or from crops, rather
than using fuels such as oil or coal:

Dam hydroelectricity has many drawbacks, therefore saying that all renewable energy is green
energy is wrong.[Drawbacks of Dam hydro were discussed while discussing Run of

the River hydroelectricity]

Soft skill is a Personal attributes that enable someone to interact effectively and harmoniously with
other people

Hard skills are the technical skills you use each day to perform your job. Some examples would be your
computer skills or procedural knowledge you apply in your job.

Soft skills, skills that help make a work environment or interaction with another person easier to manage.
Soft skill examples include communication skills, such as voice inflection and gestures. They also include
attributes such as adaptability and flexibility. Other soft skills include:

 Problem Solving
 Creative Thinking
 Conflict Resolution
 Time Management
 Self-Motivation

Demand is inelastic if it does not respond much to price changes and elastic if demand changes a
lot when the price changes. Price sensitivity is the degree to which the price of a product affects
consumers' purchasing behaviors. In economics, price sensitivity is commonly measured using the
price elasticity of demand.

Ergonomics aims to create safe, comfortable and productive workspaces by bringing human
abilities and limitations into the design of a workspace, including the individual’s body size,
strength, skill, speed, sensory abilities (vision, hearing), and even attitudes. Ergonomics is the
process of designing or arranging workplaces, products and systems so that they fit the people
who use them

A dye-sublimation printer (or dye-sub printer) is a high quality computer printer that uses heat to
make coloured images. The ink is held on cellophane sheets that are the same size as the paper.

A sacrificial metal is a metal used as a sacrificial anode in cathodic protection that corrodes to
prevent a primary metal from corrosion, galvanization or rusting. Sacrificial protection is
the protection of iron or steel against corrosion by using a more reactive metal. Pieces of zinc or
magnesium alloy are attached to pump bodies and pipes. The protected metal becomes the

4
cathode and does not corrode. The anode corrodes, thereby providing the desired sacrificial
protection.

Babbitt, also called Babbitt metal or bearing metal, is any of several alloys used for the bearing
surface in a plain bearing. The alloy mentioned in the patent was 89% Tin, 9% Antimony and 2%
Copper, which is amazingly close to today's very popular ASTM B-23 Grade 2 “Babbitt” was
originally applied to Tin-base alloys, it is now used to describe bearing metals with lead or other
metals as the major element.

72. (B) [Discussed under ABC analysis] in online live class

The ABC approach states that, when reviewing inventory, a company should rate items from A to
C, basing its ratings on the following rules:
A-items are goods which annual consumption value is the highest. The top 70-80% of the annual
consumption value of the company typically accounts for only 10-20% of total inventory items.
C-items are, on the contrary, items with the lowest consumption value. The lower 5% of the annual
consumption value typically accounts for 50% of total inventory items.
B-items are the interclass items, with a medium consumption value. Those 15-25% of annual
consumption value typically accounts for 30% of total inventory items.

The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today gave its approval to
launch "Integrated Power Development Scheme" (IPDS) with the objectives of:

7
1. Strengthening of sub-transmission and distribution network in the urban areas;
2. Metering of distribution transformers /feeders / consumers in the urban areas.
3. IT enablement of distribution sector and strengthening of distribution network as per CCEA
approval dated 21.06.2013 for completion of targets laid down under Restructured Accelerated
Power Development and Reforms Programme (RAPDRP) for 12th and 13th Plans by carrying
forward the approved outlay for RAPDRP to IPDS.
The DDUGJY scheme will enable to initiate much awaited reforms in the rural areas. It focuses on
feeder separation (rural households & agricultural) and strengthening of sub-transmission &
distribution infrastructure including metering at all levels in rural areas.
The scheme was announced as "Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP)" on 5 January
2015, urging the people to use LED bulbs in place of incandescent bulbs, tube lights and CFL
bulbs as they are more efficient, long lasting and economical in their life cycle duration.
