Chapter 5.1 Simple Web Page Construction

This Worksheet aims to reinforce the materials that students learnt on writing simple HTML
codes. This activity can be done either during the class or as an assignment after giving the
lesson. It contains a number of tasks for a group of students or a student to be completed.

In this activity, students are asked to use MS Notepad to write their web pages using HTML
codes. The idea is to let them get more familiar with the syntax and structure of basic HTML
tags. It is also suggested to use the animation produced the presentation topic done in the
activity of Worksheets in Chapter 3.1. During the work, students would need to learn how to link
HTML files together in the same or different locations (in this case, directories).

The activity is to create a set of web pages linked together. The web pages should be edited with
a very simple editor, namely MS Notepad. Divide the class into multiple groups and each group
has 3-4 students. Every student is then asked to get familiar with the basic HTML tags learned in
the associated PPT file. They are asked to do the tasks below.

1. Review the basic features of HTML tags learned.

2. Discuss a simple idea/concept that they want to present through a set of web pages which
can be done with the basic HTML tags. It is recommended to choose an idea/concept related
to the animation done in the Worksheets of Chapter 3.1.
3. Each student creates/edits a web page using MS Notepad and save the HTML file. Each
web page should include an image, a title, a table and some text contents.
4. One student creates/edits a homepage to link up all the HTML files and include the
animation done in the Worksheets of Chapter 3.1
5. Each group presents their web pages to the rest of the class and explains how they design
the contents.

During the work, the teacher would provide ideas and guidance if students encounter any
difficulties. Students are encouraged to use other drawing tools for better presentation.
