ONSITE RULES AND REGULATIONS

OBJECTIVE

The purpose of this document is to compile and bring to the notice of all the
participating teams, faculty coordinators and visitors about the rules and
regulations that are to be abided during the entire event.

DO’S:
 All the members of the participating team including the faculty advisors should always wear their
respective identity cards and appropriate shoes compulsorily during the entire event.
 Always ensure & check for availability, ratings and condition of personal protective equipment
(PPE) while working as precautionary measure and always use them while working.
 Always wear insulating gloves that are rated for the voltage/welding and check for the integrity of
gloves before using.
 Always ensure the presence of fire extinguishers (dry powder or CO2 type, ABC type) and know
the nearest exit routes for emergency exit before starting work on vehicle.
 Always turn the kill switch on before starting any work on the vehicle, and use it in case of
emergency to bring the vehicle to complete stand still.
 Stop working on an electric system if hazard is perceived and contact your supervisor and
respective component owner immediately for guidance and support. If needed evacuate personnel
from the vicinity until safe work condition is ensured.
 Handle battery carefully to avoid puncturing the case or electrically shorting the terminals. The
battery packs should be protected against excessive shock or vibration, and store the batteries in
the proper storage container away from any heat source.
 There should be standard safety marking for all high voltage areas in the vehicle and pit area.
Avoid overlapping of the high voltage cables over each other.
 Always keep first-aid kit within access of the working pit area.
 Safety glasses with side shields and safety gloves must be worn by all the participating team
members while working on the vehicle.
 At least one team member who has knowledge of the charging process must stay with the
accumulator(s)/car during charging.
 The teams can perform welding operation only in the area allotted for welding under proper
supervision.
 Maintain cleanliness in the pit area and take care of your personal belongings.
 The vehicle must be pushed and taken to various event sites at a safe walking speed ensuring the
safety of other vehicles and the people in the surrounding.
 Take proper precaution while storing inflammable articles and keep fire extinguisher easily
accessible all the time.
 All connections on battery should be done by wearing safety gloves and insulated tools.
 Place insulation mats and stand on it when working on High Voltage electrical components.
 Before starting with any work check for any potential electrical hazards in the work area and
check all grounds or for any loose objects, wires that anyone might trip over and de-clutter the pit
area.
 Notify any safety violation to supervisor. Always observe & follow the safety instructions.
ONSITE RULES AND REGULATIONS

DON’TS:
 No team member including the faculty advisor should not be seen in casual footwear such as
slippers, flip flops, etc during the entire event onsite.
 Do not assume anything on site without checking it with the concerned authorities.
 Do not short circuit the battery terminals and/or remove safety valves on the batteries in any
situation.
 Do not do parallel activities in the same vehicle without the knowledge of other person’s tasks.
Always perform one activity at a time and inform everyone before and after the activity.
 Do not leave the wires loose or un-insulated until they are ready for termination or until the time
to install it to a connector.
 Do not overburden an extension cord with too many electrical equipment.
 Do not allow anyone without considering safety measures to work on a vehicle.
 Do not allow fire, sparks, open flame, soldering objects, and smoking near the pit area.
 Do not drive the vehicle without completing fitment of all components and protective covers.
 Do not test and run the vehicle on any undefined area during BAJA SAEINDIA event.
 The use of motorcycles or motor driven devices by team members and spectators in any part of
the competition area paddocks is prohibited.
 Do not drive the vehicle before completion of Technical Inspection.
 Teams should not cover their respective pit areas with any cloth, poster, flex or material of any
kind.
 Under no circumstances, the engine should be cranked in the pit areas.
 Under no circumstances, welding operation should be performed in the pit areas.
 No other person apart from the team members and the faculty advisors should be present inside
the allotted pit of the respective teams.
 No outside assistance should be taken from any skilled worker, team alumni or college staff at the
event site.
 No team members, faculty, family members, college alumni should be present on the endurance
race track to avoid safety hazards.
 Do not perform cutting and grinding operations inside the pit. Designated areas have been
provided for such operations near the weld pit area.
 Do not spread trash in the pit areas or in the vicinity.
 Do not crank the engine before ensuring no one else is working on any system and no one is in
the vicinity of the exhaust.
 No member apart from team driver(s) should drive the vehicle in any circumstances.
 Do not store any kind of fuel or refuel your vehicle in the pit area.
 Do not take vehicle to any event site without fire extinguisher(s) as mentioned in the rulebook.
 Do not try to extinguish uncontrolled fire in the vehicle with high voltage components unless you
are trained to do that. Ensure personnel’s safety first and evacuate everyone in the vicinity if
needed.
 Do not wear any jewellery or have any metallic articles on person that could accidentally come in
contact with high voltage component, while working.
 Do not start the work on high voltage system if anyone else is working on the vehicle/ component
nearby. Inform them about your work and then continue.
 Do not work alone while working on high voltage system.
 Under no circumstances, should any team member misbehave with any volunteers or the event
authorities.
ONSITE RULES AND REGULATIONS

RULES COMPLIANCE
By entering the BAJA SAEINDIA 2019 competition, the team members, faculty advisors and
other personnel of the entering college/university agree to comply with, and be bound by, the
rules and all their interpretations or procedures issued or announced by BAJA SAEINDIA
Organising Committee. All team members, faculty advisors and other university representatives
are required to cooperate with, and follow all instructions as mentioned.

Please keep in mind that safety remains paramount during BAJA SAEINDIA,
so any perceived loopholes should be resolved in the direction of increased
safety/concept of the competition.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Faculty Advisors are expected to advise their teams on general safety measures and practices.
He/she shall:-

 Advise, review, and monitor the progress of the team for safety practices in the event and
testing of Baja buggy.
 Ensure safety of all team members and the vehicle throughout the event.
 Support & assist to BAJA SAEINDIA Organizing Committee to conduct the event safely,
peacefully and in case of any disputes, resolve the issues that may arise during the
competition.

Team captains are expected to look after their team, and make sure that their entire team abides to
the aforementioned rules and no violations are made in this regard.

CONSEQUENCE OF ANY VIOLATION


The violations of a rule will lead to penalties for the team based on severity of the violation.
Questions about the intent or meaning of a rule may be addressed to BAJA SAEINDIA Organizing
Committee.

Any person noticing a rule violation and/or an act leading to potential safety hazard should
immediately get in contact with BAJA SAEINDIA Organizing Committee.

PENALTIES
BAJA SAEINDIA Organizing Committee reserves the right to penalize the teams due to non-
compliance of safety and rules violation as per their discretion and measures to better reflect the
safety practices of the event.
