All you see is glass

A revolutionary innovation of trans-

parency, technology and design!

The POP-IN sliding door system creates a sophisticated

ambiance and clarity so that all you see is glass. The
frame, it‘s operational mechanism or brackets do not dis-
turb the transparent assembly. As a single flowing glass
wall, the entire facade is finished inside and out flush
with the adjacent areas.

The revolutionary POP-IN sliding door literally opens to

a new world of glass architecture. Whether open to the
outside world or locked securely, there is no disturbance
to the frameless appearance. The smooth transition
between its open and closed position leads to a harmonic
fusion of the entire glass facade. The seals and locks are
subtlety concealed between the high performance glass
plates and a narrow screen printed edge. This can be to
the specifiers own choice.

This is glass architecture and engineering at its very best!

General

Our POP-IN sliding-door system

corresponds to the European state
of the art and complies with the
national regulations and the gene-
rally recognized codes of practice.
Each project is unique, with the
highest requirements for precision
and conformity.

All details are developed in

cooperation with the appropriate
designers.

All components are produced using

CNC machines, controlled by CAD/
CAM software, ensuring the pre-
cision machining essential for the
production of high quality façade
elements.

The installation takes place

exclusively with assemblers having
long experience in the field of
bespoke glass and metal façade
construction and always under the
project supervision of experienced
engineers.

Opening study unlock the multi-point system

the door opens inwards with utmost ease

even by hand, the largest door opens with childlike simplcity

The POP-IN sliding door glides effortlessly despite it‘s
weight and robust design. It glides into position on
invisible runners in the ceiling. Discrete floor guides
float the doors into their desired position. The multi-
point locking system quietly secures the doors from
intrusion by wind, water and the un-invited visitor!

This globally unique system makes child‘s play of

the motion sequence without either compromise and the door is damped to faciliate total safety
competition.

Even bespoke solutions e.g. devices with electric drive,

opening corners, internal glass balustrades, outside
opening etc. are possible.
4
Glass sizes

The glass sizes depend on several ceiling deflections

parameters: rigid very rigid
- In case of a POP-IN sliding-door the max. permitted
weight is 250kg (corresponds to a glass surface of wind / impact resistance
6.25m², in case of a standard glass build-up 8/39/8)
- In case of fixed glazing there is no restriction of weight. better worse
- Max. production sizes for toughened glass with screen
printing and coating (the specifications of the glass
refiner in question must be taken into consideration here)
cost
- Location / installation circumstances
- Wind / impact loads high low
5
u-values

With our pop-in-sliding-door system you can achieve very good u-values depending upon the ratio of frame, door and fixed glazing.

For a typical 10,8m wide and 2,8m high facade with 2 nos. doors and 4 nos. fixed glazed elements the weighted u-values are as
following:

double glazing uw=1,3 W/m² with ug=1,1 W/m²K

triple glazing uw=0,9 W/m²K with ug=0,7 W/m²K
The heat transfer calculation has been carried out with a validated software in accordance with EN ISO 10077-1 and EN ISO 10077-2.

We would like to point out that structural-physical properties of the glass façade alone are not enough to ensure a condensation-free
design. This depends upon the environmental conditions, particularly the relative humidity inside the building.
More than the sum of their characteristics.
6
Ironmongery

The fitting is invisibly located in

the space between the sliders
and opens the multi-point locking system upon turning
the handle by 90°.

In locked position the handle is orientated vertical and

thus not visible from the outside. All commercially availa-
ble window handles with a fastening pitch of 43 mm
can be used. Special designs are possible upon request.
Our POP-IN sliding-doors are suspended on top using
2-wheelstainless steel trolleys. The trolleys are designed
for weights up to 400 kg.

A top-hinged system offers the following advantages

compared to a conventional bottom-hinged system:

- Dust on the floor does not lead to blocking of the

doors. Any dust which is present falls into bottom
profile and does not hamper movement.
- op-hinged systems are easier to slide - it‘s unique, try it!
- Top-hinged systems behave better in case of wind /
impact stress.

Glas

All glass is foreseen to be as clear as possible.

The build-up of the POP-IN units is such, that the glass has adequate resistance against all static and dynamic environmental loads likely to act on them and is thermally
safe against thermal stresses generated by orientation, local shading, solar control, etc.

All toughened glass panels will be heat soak tested either for a minimum of 8 hours at 290 ± 10 ° C average furnace temperature according to DIN 18 516:Part 4 or ac-
cording to the forthcoming European standard EN 14 179-1, i.e. for a minimum period of 4 hours at 280 ° C glass temperature. Heat soaked glass will be certified as such,
marks on the panels and other documentary evidence are supplier specific.

In addition to the applicable regulations, all glass will be subject to visual agreement by the Architect, prior to their purchase, however taking due consideration of permis-
sible production discrepancies, discoloration and distortion and irisation known to be associated with toughened glass under certain polarised lighting conditions. To avoid
any misunderstandings the agreed visual samples will be held as reference to check the quality of any panel installed on site.

We normally work with the following glass build-up:

External 8 mm toughened glass, screen printing on face #2 (towards cavity) along the glass perimeter, colour as per RAL, all edges polished
39 mm spacer, colour as per RAL, argon-filled cavity, primary sealing of butyl, secondary sealing of silicon
Low-E coating ε = 0.04 on layer #3
Internal 8 mm toughened glass, screen printing on face #3 (towards cavity) along the glass perimeter, colour as per RAL, all edges polished

Overall thickness approx. 55 mm

Ug = 1.2 W/m²K as per DIN EN 673, R w ≥ 36 dB assessed according to BS EN ISO 717-1

The alignment of the so-called „roller waves“ which occur during the manufacture of toughened glass takes place in consultation with the Architect - either horizontally or
vertically uniformly.

Materials

All aluminium extrusions are foreseen to be fabricated from aluminium alloy grade 6060 T5 or T6 (* AlMgSi 0,5 *) of adequate thickness and strength.
All aluminium sheets are from aluminium alloy grade J57S (* AlMg1 *), with a minimum thickness of 3 mm, unless specifically noted otherwise.
All construction parts from steel are foreseen to be fabricated from proprietary grade 43 mild steel. The actual grade for all steel parts will be determined according to the
structural and corrosion resistance requirements.

We normally work with the following surface treatments:

- Small construction parts from steel are electrical galvanised

- Large construction parts from steel are hot dip galvanised, inferior parts are primed. Visible surfaces are in addition shop-painted using a polyurethane spray finish system.
Colour and gloss of the top finish according to the RAL colour chart, to the Architect’s choice
- Visible aluminium surfaces are polyester powder coated, colour and gloss to the RAL colour chart and the Architect’s choice.
- Inferior aluminium parts (e.g. shimmings, connection pieces, mechanical fixings for vapour barriers, etc.) and non significant surfaces are mill finished / flash anodised

Powder coating is foreseen to be single layer, single colour, with identical colour on inside and outside. Powder coating will be carried out by an applicator approved by the
powder manufacturer.
Surface treatment of the extrusions is carried our before cutting, drilling holes and threads, milling, making cut-outs, etc., whereas surface treatment of sheets and pressed
metal is carried out after cutting, folding, welding, etc.

Hot dip galvanising is carried out in accordance with DIN EN ISO 1461.

Powder coating is carried out in accordance with Technical Guidelines established by “GSB International”, the Quality Association for piecework coating of building compo-
nents and coating material or “Qualicoat”, the Association for Quality Control in the Lacquering, Painting and Coating Industry, both acting as certifying authority according to
EN 45 011.
Both organisations define comprehensive quality requirements, assuring the quality of metal parts used in Architectural Applications and monitor their compliance by licensed
plants world-wide. As a result, purchasers of powder coated components receive a premium-grade product delivering long-term value with good quality.
All fixing anchors, bolts, nuts, washers and screws
will be from stainless steel of adequate strength
for their design purpose, unless specifically notes
otherwise. Where these fixings are on the external
face of the cladding or subject to continual exposure
to moisture, they are from stainless steel grade A4.

Packers and shims are from coated mild steel, ano-

dised aluminium or polyamide.

All internal and external gaskets are from silicone.

Central seals within doors are carried out with integ-
ral, moulded and hot vulcanised corners.
All gaskets will be chosen such that they are stable
with all contact products and finishes and have best
resistance against oxidation, ozone and UV degradation.

All sealants are from neutral curing silicone, stable

and compatible with all contact products and fini-
shes, unless specifically noted otherwise.
All materials will be chosen, such that they are non
combustible if possible, to achieve best fire resis-
tance, or if not, do not add significantly to the fire
load and produce no toxic fumes in case of fire.
Also materials will be chosen, such that they have
the lowest ignition point possible, to best prevent
surface spread of flames.
an easy game.

Drainage

The system drainage takes place via the bottom profile.

Since the bottom profile as a standard practice it is installed
flush with the floor, nevertheless the drainage must be
guaranteed. This can be done e.g. with a

concealed water gutter (1)

or a

wooden grating (2) with underlying storage space.

10
Break-in protection

Our POP-IN sliding-door has a

multi-point lock on the handle and
a positive mortise and tenon joint
on the opposite side. As additional
measure, it is possible to use
laminated safety glass, reinforced
locking cams and window contacts.
11
Sound insulation

Depending on individual glass build-up,

very good sound insulation values
can be attained. In this case just
an isolated consideration of the
glazing alone is not useful, since
the entire design i.e. glazing, frame
and connection joints is crucial.
12
Storm tested
and waterproof!

The system has undergone severe and comprehensive weather testing,

greater than required in both Europe and the UK. From residential housing
to skyscraper installations, it has with much bravado, proven its pedigree
with more than one thousand installed units worldwide.

Safety in its most wonderful form!

Our POP-IN sliding-door system was tested at TAYLOR WOODROW in
Leighton Buzzard in England - Report No. 956/02/13263, dated February
17, 2003 (United Kingdom Accreditation Service approved Laboratory).

The following tests were carried out:

- Air permeability test according to CWCT Standard and BS 5368: Part 1

- Static water-tightness test according to CWCT Standard and BS 5368:
Part 2
- Dynamic water-tightness test according to CWCT Standard and AAMA 501.1
- Hose test according to CWCT Standard and AAMA 501.2
- Wind resistance test according to CWCT Standard and BS 5368: Part 3
- Pendulum impact test according to BS 8200
13
Deformations,
stresses

The glasses are exclusively dimen-

sioned according to the permitted
stresses for screen printed toughened
glass.

In extensive test series, the POP-IN

sliding-door system has proved that
high deformations do not have any
negative influence on the integrity
of the rigid,
shear-proof edge seal.
Even extremely high deformations
can be balanced by our pop-in-
sliding-door system without any
problems.
14
Ceiling deflections

Top and bottom profile are directly connected to the

building structure. In order to ensure that large spans
are possible, the building structure must be sufficient-
ly rigid.

Deflections due to life loads such as wind, snow, rain

water in case of flat roofs, or passenger transport in
highly frequented areas must be restricted depending
on the façade geometry (height, width, position and
number of the doors, etc.).
15
Tolerances,
movement

Our elements are designed to accommodate building tolerances, deflections and thermal
movements. Expansion / contraction joints and couplings are included in our prices and will be
incorporated where necessary. Joint sizes according requirements.
By reasons of experience, we propose to make generous allowance with regards to the
movements and tolerances specified, rather than being too tight, as this helps to avoid later
problems on site.
