A.

PROJECT SITE

Tiguman is situated at approximately 6.7° North latitude, 125.3° East longitude, in the
island of Mindanao. Elevation at these coordinates is estimated at 27.4 meters (89.9 feet)
above mean sea level. Tiguman is a barangay in the city of Digos with a land area of 436
hectares, represented 1.52% of the total area of the city; having about 2,398 populations
(1.42% of the total population of Digos City) as determined by the 2015 Census.

Tiguman shares a common border with the following barangays: Zone 3 (Poblacion),
Colorado, San Miguel (Odaca), Digos, Tres de Mayo, and San Jose (Balutakay), Digos,
Davao del Sur

From Digos City proper to Tiguman, the fastest

route would be via Digos-Sultan Kudarat Rd,
which travels 5.4 km in 12 min by driving and 1
hr 5 min by walking. And as per Digos Junction
Rd, travels 6.9 km in 13 min by driving and 1 hr
11 min by walking.

B. DESCRIPTION

The locality in Tiguman is composed mostly of farmers. Their main source of income
typically comes from crops such as banana, corn, coconut etc. This is solely because
Tiguman is situated where agricultural land is cultivated.

Crops Cultivated

a. Rice and Corn

In 2010, the land area planted to rice was placed at 1,052.23 hectares with an average
annual yield for two cropping of 12,000 kgs. per hectare or a total of 12,626,760 kgs., while
for corn (both yellow & white) was planted to an area of 1,630 hectares with an average
yield of 18,000 kgs. per hectare or a total of 29,340,000 kgs. Per conversion ratio for its
recovery rate, rice and corn yielded 7,238,922 kgs. and 16,820,622 kgs., respectively.

b. Banana

In 2010, areas planted to banana totaled to 1,098 hectares or 10.10% of the total
agricultural area. The crop is classified as lacatan with an annual production of 4,968,000
kgs., cardava with 9,570,000 kgs. and cavendish with 48,336,000 kgs. Lacatan would
sufficiently supply the local market up to 2016 only. A deficit in supply would be
experience in 2017 to 2020 against the projected per capita consumption in same years.
Cardava would have supplied sufficiently the local market throughout the planning
period, while Cavendish in same period, would find its way to foreign markets or for
export

c. Coconut

Coconut in 2010, is planted to an area of 2,845 hectares or 26.16% of the entire

agricultural land with an average volume of 2,840 kgs per hectare or 8,079,800 kgs.,
annually. Coconut is regarded as one of the major crops grown in Digos and contributed
satisfactorily to the local economy. The products of coconut especially copra oil are highly
demanded for domestic and export consumption. Raw coconuts and copra are
transported to neighboring LGU’s for processing. Area for coconut has increased from
2,836 has. to 2,845 has. in same years with the same average volume of 2,840 kgs per
hectare.

C. DESIGN

1. DATA GATHERING

All gathered data of this project is via online, Comprehensive Land Use Plan
provided by City of Digos and involves appraisal of the site. The viability of this
project analyses if it can be a source of income that increases the economic
productivity of the city and its people and the benefit of the investors want to
invest in the project. In gathering this data, there are lots of things that should be
considered.

Area Specifications:

A. Slope
Tiguman lies in the south-western portion of the city which is relatively
flat. As shown in the figure A.1 Tiguman is 0-3 % flat which is highly
efficient for infrastructural purposes.
B. Soil Type
The soil in the location is classified as alluvial and brownish colored
Mural clay. It introduces fine-grained fertile soil deposited by water flowing
over flood plains or in river beds.
C. Zoning
The area is situated where agriculture is utilized. The researchers highly
suggest applying for land conversion.
D. Flood Hazard
Factors such as slope and soil type directly affect the area in terms of
flooding. Given in figure D.1 the area’s safety level in flashfloods is much
lower compared to other areas.
E. Hydro-geologic Features
The urban area of the city and the adjacent Barangay of Tiguman is
identified good source of potable ground water. In figure E.1, shows the
capacity of the area to induce sustainable water.
