Description A-640-WS is a reddish brown, dark liquid, produced by extraction of annatto

pigments from the seeds of the annatto tree (Bixa orellana L) using aqueous
potassium hydroxide. The major coloring principle is norbixin.

Application Usage
Juice, cheese, ice-cream, bakery products, confectionery, snacks, soups,
desserts, meat and other food products with an aqueous phase.
Yellow to orange hue in the final product, depending on the food product,
processing and the quantity used.

Directions for use

Shake the product before use, as pigment may settle during storage. Can be
added directly to the food product while stirring. If the color is to be diluted
before use, it is preferable to use soft or distilled water. If not available, mix
with water immediately before use. Do not mix with calcium salts.

Storage and handling Temperature: 4 - 8 °C / 39 - 46 °F.

Conditions: Protect from light, Dry

Shelf life 183 days in unopened containers at the recommended storage temperature.

given by JECFA, with the EU Directive 95/45/EC for (E 160b), and with existing
legislation described in 21 CFR 73. In the US no certification is necessary and the
colour can be used in any amount consistent with good manufacturing practices.
