Q1: Share a few of your learnings, such as names of at least six shortcut keys and their

utilities?
There are a number of keys used in Photoshop for easier and quicker implementation of intended
commands. Seven of such shortcut keys are mentioned below along with their main purposes.
1. Ctrl + C which is used for copying content.
2. Ctrl + V which is used for pasting the copied content.
3. Ctrl + T which is used for transformation i.e. basic changes.
4. Ctrl + R which is used for horizontal or vertical rulers.
5. Ctrl + D which is used for deselecting a selected item.
6. Ctrl + Shift + D which is used to reselect the previously selected item.
7. Ctrl + Alt + I which is used to set the item’s resolution in terms of its width and height.
Q2: What is the purpose of layers? If all art is drawn on a single layer, what could happen?
Different layers are used in Photoshop so that the original background image is not distorted. They
are used to work on individual parts of an image while ensuring that the rest of the parts are
unaffected. They allow the user to modify the image, add some text, change colors and more
without modifying or distorting the original photo. In case the entire art is drawn on a single layer,
the user will not be able to delete some parts of the image all the while keeping the rest of the
image intact. Deleting or modifying specific portions of the image will become difficult, if not
impossible, for the user if each part is not drawn on a separate layer.
Q3: Explain how to use the basic tools such as marquee, lasso and magic wand. Elaborate
each with a picture on Photoshop.
The marquee, lasso and magic wand tools are selection tools. Each is explained individually below.
Marquee:

It is a selection tool that enables the user to select parts of the image based on geometric shapes.
Specifically, the marquee tool allows you to draw rectangular and elliptical selections. To form
the selection, the user has to simply click and drag the mouse.
Lasso:

The lasso tool is a freeform selection tool where the user has to simply drag a
freehand selection around the object or area they want to select, in a way they would outline
something on a piece of paper with a pen or pencil. There are two other types of lasso tools as
well - the Polygonal Lasso Tool and the Magnetic Lasso Tool.
Magic Wand:

Unlike other selection tools, that select pixels in an image based on shapes or by detecting object
edges, the Magic Wand selects pixels based on tone and color. It allows the user to change a certain
portion of an image while leaving other portion intact. It also selects pixels in an image by detecting
the possible edges of the image.
