Hexagonal boom profile Durability | Weight | Precision | Capacity

The hexagonal profile used on Hiab booms is a ground-breaking design

introduced by Hiab many years ago. It is now standard throughout the
market for loader cranes. Even the smallest Hiab crane benefits from
this design.

Customer benefit
The hexagonal profile ensures the boom is always in perfect balance, thanks
to its shape and large support surface. The profile also minimizes boom
deflection, which reduces maintenance costs and increases efficiency.

Facts
The hexagonal section gives the boom
system maximum lightness in relation
to its strength.
Key benefits

Large slide pads

The hexagonal profile enables the use of larger slide pads. This makes
the extensions move more smoothly and reduces mechanical wear on
the boom.

Customer benefit
Large slide pads reduce friction and wear and keep maintenance costs low.
Also, our boom system needs no greasing, and thus it is kept cleaner than
those of our competitors’.

Facts
The slide pads are made out of self
lubricaiting PTFE Teflon™. Once worn
down, they are easily replaced by new
ones, further decreasing service times.

Key benefits
X-function Speed | Precision | Comfort

Angling the outer boom upwards relative to the inner boom gives greater
accessibility in confined spaces.

Customer benefit
An upward angling of the outer boom makes it possible to work under a ceiling,
to enter through a door, to dig under a balcony, etc. This makes the crane more
serviceable and therefore extra-profitable.

Facts
The X-function enables an upward
angle of approximately 15°. Together
with an X-function jib this adds another
12-30°, making it possible to angle as
much as 45° upwards in total.
Key benefits

Controlled extension and retraction sequence

A controlled sequence means that the extensions always move in the
same order. Extracting and retracting the extensions in a controlled
sequence means that the total weight is lower, this is of most importance
on a long boom system.

Customer benefit
The controlled sequence enables a higher load capacity with a fully extended
very long boom system. This gives you lower overall weight, greater capacity
and efficiency.

Facts
A controlled sequence gives
proportional loading of the individual
extension members, which means that
they can have smaller dimensions.

Side supports for stability Durability | Precision

Side supports fitted on each boom extension stabilize the boom

laterally and minimize the play. This increases precision and is
especially beneficial on boom systems with long outreach.

Customer benefit
The side supports greatly improve the performance when for example
excavating or performing other high-stress tasks.

Facts
The side supports are fitted on each
side of the extensions. They give lateral
support.
Key benefits

Flexible cylinder positioning

Some extension cylinders can be positioned on top of the boom, or
side-mounted. This influences the crane’s dimensions and enables
easier access to confined spaces.

Customer benefit
By positioning the extension cylinders top- or side-mounted, the space
occupied by the cylinders can be chosen to suit the work for which the crane
is intended. Also, the boom system can be customized to fit the installation
space available for the crane.

Facts
As an option, brackets can be mounted
in order to prepare the boom for
extension cylinders to be fitted later on.

Three-point bridge
A three-point bridge is the most durable and stable way to connect the
crane to the truck chassis. This is especially important when the crane
is pointed straight out sideways from the truck. The three-point bridge
also minimizes interference with the mobility of the chassis, so that
riding in the truck cabin remains a smooth and comfortable experience.

Customer benefit
With the three-point bridge the driving characteristics of the truck are only
minimally affected by the crane. This gives higher driving comfort. The service
life of both the truck and the crane is maximized.

Facts
A three-point bridge is used on Hiab
cranes over 3 tonne-metres.

Oil bath
On most Hiab cranes over six tonne-metre the slewing mechanism
is enclosed in an oil bath. This keeps the slewing mechanism in great
condition throughout the years, making sure the crane can be
confidently used for extremely demanding applications.

Customer benefit
Keeping the slewing mechanism in an oil bath provides smooth and precise
slewing. Reduced wear on the mechanism keeps repair and service costs to a
minimum and also guarantees a longer crane life.

Facts
The oilbath is especially important
on digging cranes, where rough
conditions and long working hours put
the mechanism to the ultimate test.

Wide range of crane base widths

Hiab offers different crane base widths to suit different truck widths,
and local traffic laws. Hiab cranes can be mounted on smaller trucks
without any problem, and on bigger vehicles the full truck width is
utilized for optimizing the crane geometry.

Customer benefit
No crane base modifications are needed for installation on smaller trucks,
thereby lowering mounting costs.

Stabilizer legs Price | Weight | Mounting

Wide range of legs

There are stabilizer legs of different lengths to go with Hiab cranes.
Stabilizer legs can be matched precisely to the height of truck and crane.

Customer benefit
The stabilizer legs come at a lower cost. Weight saved on the stabilizer legs
also means that bigger payloads can be put onto the truck.

Facts

Key benefits
Price | Speed | Weight

Stabilizer extensions up to 9 metres

The maximum standard width of the extensions is longer than on
competing cranes. On the largest cranes this length is up to 9 metres.
This means that rear stabilizer legs can be shorter or may not be needed
at all. Even so, full stability is achieved throughout the working range
of the crane.

Customer benefit
The customer saves money and weight, since rear stabilizer legs may not be
needed. This also means that work can get started quicker, since the vehicle
set-up time is reduced.

Automatic extension-beam lock

The stabilizer extension beams have a spring-loaded mechanical catch
that prevents them from sliding out while the truck is on the move. The
same type of catch keeps the legs in place when parked.

Customer benefit
The spring-loaded catch provides automatic locking without the trouble of
tightening screws or bolts manually. The stabilizer beam lock thereby
ensures easy and secure storage during transportation.

Facts
Hiab cranes have two locks for the
stabilizer legs. One lock is mandatory
according to the European safety norm.
Key benefits
Safety | Comfort | Mounting

Tiltable stabilizer legs

The stabilizer legs can be swung up partly manually or automatically
up to 180° by means of a tilt kit. Stabilizer legs with a tilt kit create scope
for crane mounting. In the case of a rear-mounted crane, tilting prevents
the trailer, if any, from fouling the stabilizer legs during turns.

Customer benefit
The installation space can be reduced if tiltable legs are used, and this
maximizes load space. It is also possible to mount the crane at the rear
of the truck and use a trailer at the same time.

Facts
In many countries, regulations require
that rear stabilizer legs can be tilted
upwards. This minimizes damage to a
vehicle accidentally running into the
truck from behind.

Individual degrees of tilt

Customers can choose different degrees of tilt on right and left sides
for cranes over 3 tonne-metres. Stabilizer legs with a small degree of
tilt are as a rule lower in cost.

Customer benefit
By adjusting the degree of tilt individually, on either side of the truck, you
don’t have to relocate parts on the chassis that might otherwise be in the
way. This provides for a lower overall mounting cost.

Low-friction manual extensions

The stabilizer extension beams on Hiab’s cranes are run on large
bearings. This greatly reduces friction and thereby makes them the
easiest and fastest to use on the market.

Customer benefit
Manual extensions take up less mounting space and also cost less. They are
smooth, quick and safe to set up, and also offer a good solution ergonomically
thanks to very low friction.

Facts
Manual stabilizer extensions are
available for cranes up to 15 tonne-
metres. Cranes over 3.5 tonne-metres
have hydraulic extension as an option.

Link systems Price | Weight

B-link
The B-link system is actually a boom without links. This configuration
is used on the most basic cranes. In practice the term B-link is only useful
when comparing cranes with and without links. The primary benefit of
the B-link solution (no links) is keeping down weight.

Customer benefit
The B-link solution (no links) provides you with a very basic crane which is
lower in weight.

Capacity

C-link
The C-link system comprises an inner boom link which significantly
increases the lifting capacity of the crane in high boom positions,
especially when working close to the column. In practice, this could
mean the difference between loading and not loading a heavy weight
onto a truck.

Customer benefit
An inner boom link makes it possible to lift a heavier load close to the
column, and to higher positions such as on scaffolding.

Facts
The inner boom link forces out the inner
boom cylinder to obtain a long lever
arm, which will ensure a maximum
distance between the column and
inner cylinder in all boom positions.

Link systems Speed | Precision | Capacity

D-link
The D-link system provides a lever connection between the inner and
outer boom. The main function of the D-link is to enable the outer
boom to move at a constant speed, resulting in smooth and precise
performance. The system absorbs peaks and shocks during excavation
work, making the crane easy to work with.

Customer benefit
An outer boom link causes the outer boom to move at constant speed. It also
prevents capacity loss when working with a stretched out boom. It does not
protrude below the boom and, thereby, does not interfere with any load
placed there.
Facts
Compact in design, it does not
protrude at the lower edge of the boom.
Key benefits
Speed | Precision | Capacity

E-link
An E-link system is a kind of lever connection between the column
and the inner boom, as well as the inner and the outer boom. This is
beneficial when lifting heavy loads straight up to high positions, such
as on scaffolding.

Customer benefit
An inner boom link makes it possible to lift a heavier load close to the column,
and the outer boom link helps in lifting to higher positions such as scaffolding.
The outer boom link does not protrude below the boom and thereby does not
interfere with any load placed under the boom.

Facts
An E-link boom has all the advantages
of both a C- and a D-link. The links
forces out the boom cylinders to
obtain a long lever arm, which will
ensure a maximum distance between
the booms and cylinders in all boom
positions.

Over Load Protection (OLP)

The Over Load Protection (OLP) system is designed on the principle that
no crane movement should be brought to a complete halt without good
cause, but equally there should be no compromise in operator safety. A
movement is only stopped when there is a real risk of exceeding the
crane’s limits by continuing with that particular movement. Other
movements, however, are allowed to continue as normal. OLP is very
discreet, remaining invisible to the operator unless and until the system
senses a potential problem hazard. When the crane reaches 90% of its
maximum capacity, the operator is alerted, enabling him to take
corrective action and carry on working. If a jib or hoist is being used, OLP
monitors the position and movements of this item as well.

Stability in slewing sector

Whatever truck/crane combination you have, Hiab will calculate the
working area available to the front of the truck cabin as well as the
slewing angle and capacity that can be used in this traditionally unstable
sector. The crane can then be adjusted accordingly after installation on
the vehicle. This means that the crane operator can now slew 360°
around the crane base, with only slightly reduced lifting capacity when
working in front of the vehicle cabin.

Customer benefit
With a Hiab crane you can slew full circle all around the crane base. The
lifting capacity is slightly decreased in the front area, but this feature greatly

Automatic Duty Control (ADC)

Automatic Duty Control (ADC), patented by Hiab, is the only fully
automatic duty control function on the market. ADC will automatically
boost the maximum capacity of the crane with around 10% during
regular operation.

Customer benefit
The ADC enables lifts to be performed that would otherwise exceed the
capacity of the crane. ADC also enables work to proceed without interruption Facts

will really make a difference. MSC automatically boosts the capacity by
slightly reducing the speed of the inner and outer boom. This means
the operator can focus totally on the job at hand. MSC delivers greater
capacity when you need it most.

Customer benefit
The customer need not think about manually lowering the speed and can
focus on his work. This gives maximum convenience for the customer.

automatically, which means that the operator does not feel or notice a
thing. The function activates as you reach the regular capacity limit,
meaning that you can still lift the load where other cranes would have
come to a complete stop. To compensate for the capacity boost, the
speed of the inner and outer boom is slightly reduced. Capacity ceiling,
safety and efficiency are significantly increased by this feature.

Customer benefit
The crane gets a gradual increase of capacity, and the operator does not need
to think about manually lowering the speed. This keeps the operator
focused on the job.

Automatic Damping System (ADS) Facts

The ADS consists of a damping and load-holding valve mounted on the -
slewing mechanism. It proves mostly valuable on cranes with more than
three extensions as it gives gentle damping even if a control lever is
released hastily. In applications where slewing is frequently used, e.g.
bucket operation, loading and unloading at long outreaches etc., ADS
gives increased precision and higher productivity.

Customer benefit
ADS gives gentle damping of the cranes slewing movement, even if the
control is released hastily. This increases safety and precision. It also leads
to minimum risk of damage to load or crane.

Pump Flow Distribution (PFD)

In situations where the operator is working at the limits and using 130 l/min
multiple functions simultaneously, even the largest pump may not be
able to supply enough oil. PFD distributes available oil in proportion to 80 l/min
the operator’s lever movements. All functions will continue to work just
as expected with no disturbances or surprises, although you require
more oil flow than available.

Customer benefit
The PFD function makes sure that the oil throughput is always proportional
to the lever movement, greatly enhancing the precision of the crane.

Facts
Even at an oil flow of 100 l/min, the
system activates three times per load
cycle during normal use. PFD applies
only to cranes with the HiPro control
system.

Automatic Dumping of Oil (ADO)

Automatic Dumping of Oil (ADO) serves to bring the oil straight back
from the pump into the tank when the crane is running idle. By doing
this the oil keeps its cooling and lubricating properties for a longer time.

Customer benefit
The ADO function will significantly decrease wear on the hydraulic system,
lower maintenance costs and fuel consumption. All this leads to a longer
crane service life. 3 sec
