are missing, such as Cyan or Magenta or Yellow or Black, or any combination of these planes.
This bulletin's purpose: to instruct Technical Support Agents and Field Service Technicians to
PROACTIVELY INSTALL the Toner Adder Roll (TAR) Spring Clip using the latest Part Number (P/N:
40X8823). This installation should ultimately enhance the customer experience with these
machines by preventing potential print quality failures.
To check the location of the Left Cartridge Guide, follow the steps below.
Steps Actions
Image 1 Image 2
Warning—Potential Damage: To avoid overexposing the photoconductors, do not leave the front door
open for more than ten minutes.
Pull the green tabs up and out of the specified cartridge to remove that cartridge from the printer.
Check continuity between spring and frame, (see blue arrow on the image below). The spring should
NOT be touching the frame. If the spring is touching the frame, the Left Cartridge Guide has broken
but may be repairable by following the steps below.

When a customer calls in for any issue with the printers listed above, troubleshoot the specific
issue as necessary.
IMPORTANT! In the process of troubleshooting, first verify the printer's serial number. Printers that
were produced prior to September 1, 2012:
C746 / C748 prior to SN 5026xxxxx0XBY where x could be any value and last 4 digits
should be BEFORE 0XBY alpha numeric build sequence
X746 / X748 prior to SN 7526xxxxx0DFW where x could be any value and last 4 digits
should be BEFORE 0DFW alpha numeric build sequence
These devices have a potential problem with the Left Cartridge Guide that may cause a print
quality defect such as missing color plane (one or more colors).
If the printer requires service, recommend the parts necessary to address the issue. Then
recommend installing the latest Toner Adder Roll (TAR) Spring Clip (P/N: 40X8823).
If the initial issue is resolved via phone discussion, agents are still required to set up service and
recommend the replacement of Toner Adder Roll (TAR) Spring Clip (P/N: 40X8823).
NOTE: Emphasize in Siebel Call Comments/Notes that the Toner Adder Roll (TAR) Spring Clip is
recommended to replace the part as per TE529. However, for Siebel Track Codes, use the original
issue that the customer raised.
When visiting any of these machines for any reason, it is advisable for Field Personnel to
RECOMMEND installation of the Toner Adder Roll (TAR) Spring Clip in all the C746 and C748
printers, as well as X746 and X748 MFP’s, which fall in to the affected SN range.
NOTE: The part numbers listed here are correct as of April 2013. If you encounter problems when
ordering with these part numbers, please contact Lexmark Parts Center.

Next step: install the Black TAR Spring Clip. Insert the Black TAR Spring Clip as shown here. Press
the clip in until it is flush with the cartridge guide surface.
Notice the gap is still present at the top of the clip. Hold down the TAR wheel while lifting the clip into
its proper locked position, as shown here.
The Black TAR Clip can be locked into position by either lifting from underneath or by using a rib
molded into the top of the clip (see blue arrow below). However, the TAR wheel MUST be held down
in order to lock the clip into position (see red arrow below).
