Princeton House Behavioral Health Begins Emotion Regulation Program for Women

Princeton House Behavioral Health’s (PHBH) specialized services in New Jersey for
women continue to expand with the addition of a new program called Women’s Emotion
Regulation.
Princeton, NJ, October 21, 2010 -- Princeton House Behavioral Health’s (PHBH) spec
ialized services for women continue to expand with the addition of a new program
called Women’s Emotion Regulation.
“The Emotion Regulation Program is for women who struggle with a mood disorder or
post-traumatic stress disorder, and have difficulty functioning at their best as
a result,” said Nathalie Edmond, Psy.D., director of Women s Programs at PHBH, a
unit of Princeton HealthCare System.
This program is offered evenings to meet the demands of women’s busy schedules fro
m PHBH’s new women’s location at 1000 Herrontown Road, Princeton.
The Women’s Emotion Regulation program has a unique approach that combines practic
al skills training with the benefits of group therapy. Goals include helping hel
p women better manage feelings, reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety and bipol
ar disorders, as well as traumatic disorders; learn the connection between thoug
hts, feelings and behaviors; and become more aware of how one’s past history has a
n impact on current behavior.
As with most of the offerings of PHBH’s Women’s Programs, Emotion Regulation incorpo
rates principles of Dialectical Behavior Therapy, or DBT, a form of cognitive be
havioral therapy that teaches skills such as mindfulness, distress-tolerance and
interpersonal effectiveness. These skills help women to cope in times of crises
and empower them to be generally more effective in their lives.
The Emotion Regulation program is offered on an intensive outpatient basis, with
three-hour sessions that meet three nights per week.
As PHBH adds new specialized programs to meet the mental health needs of women,
it is also expanding geographically. Recently, PHBH established its Women’s Progra
ms in North Brunswick, a move that greatly expands women’s access to behavioral he
alth care in Central New Jersey.
The Women’s Programs at PHBH’s North Brunswick site consist of four outpatient track
s: Women’s Wellness; Women’s Trauma; Women’s Trauma and Addiction; and DBT (Dialectica
l Behavior Therapy) Skills.
PHBH has also launched a new centralized admissions number -- (609) 688-3707 --
where people can call to obtain information or schedule appointments across PHBH’s
multiple New Jersey sites.
