At the completion of the undergraduate training programme the graduates are expected to
be in competent in
Practice Management
Assess patients’ goals, values and concerns to establish rapport and guide patient care
Able to communicate freely, orally and in writing with all concerned
Participate in improving the oral health of the individuals through community activities.
Patient Care – Diagnosis
Recognition and initial management of medical emergencies that may occur during dental
treatment
Perform basic cardiac life support
Management of pain including post operative
Administration of all forms of local anaesthesia
Administration of intra muscular and venous injections
Prescription of drugs, pre operative, prophylactic and therapeutic requirements
Uncomplicated extraction of teeth
Transalveolar extractions and removal of simple impacted teeth
Minor oral surgical procedures
Management of oro-facial infections
Simple orthodontic appliance therapy
Taking, processing and interpretation of various types of intra oral radiographs
Various kinds of restorative procedures using different materials available
Simple endodontic procedures
Removable and fixed prosthodontics
Various kinds of periodontal therapy
PROGRAM SPECIFIC OUTCOME (PSO) – to be uploaded on website
Able to identify precancerous and cancerous lesions of the oral cavity and
refer to the concerned speciality for their management
Should have an adequate knowledge about common laboratory
investigations and interpretation of their results.
Should have adequate knowledge about medical complications that can arise
while treating systemically compromised patients and take prior precautions/
consent from the concerned medical specialist.
Have adequate knowledge about radiation health hazards, radiation safety
and protection.
Competent to take intra-oral radiographs and interpret the radiographic
findings
Gain adequate knowledge of various extra-oral radiographic procedures, TMJ
radiography and sialography.
Be aware of the importance of intra- and extra-oral radiographs in forensic
identification and age estimation
Should be familiar with jurisprudence, ethics and understand the significance
of dental records with respect to law
PERIODONTOLOGY
Able to apply the knowledge gained in the basic medical and clinical subjects
in the management of patients with surgical problems
Able to diagnose, manage and treat patients with basic oral surgical problems
Have a broad knowledge of maxillofacial surgery and oral implantology
Should be familiar with legal, ethical and moral issues pertaining to the
patient care and communication skills
Should have acquired the skill to examine any patient with an oral surgical
problem in an orderly manner
Understand and practice the basic principles of asepsis and sterilization. 5
Should be competent in the extraction of the teeth under both local and
general anaesthesia
Competent to carry out certain minor oral surgical procedures under LA like
trans-alveolar extraction, frenectomy, dento alveolar procedures, simple
impaction, biopsy, etc.
Competent to assess, prevent and manage common complications that arise
during and after minor oral surgery
Able to provide primary care and manage medical emergencies in the dental
office
Familiar with the management of major oral surgical problems and principles
involved in in-patient management
The Values encapsulated in the Graduate Attributes Framework are further disseminated to
the students through the Student Development Programs conducted every year.
The Course Outcomes(Specified as Objectives) for each course of our college programs are
specified in the handbook named “Regulations and Syllabus”.
We communicate these to our students by giving a copy of this book to each student on
admission. The teachers of a particular course refer to these expected course outcomes in
their classes.
Upload a description of the method of measuring attainment of POs , PSOs and COs in
not more than 500 words and the level of attainment of POs , PSOs and COs.
The IQAC of GITAM dental college has been established to develop a mechanism to build
and ensure a culture of quality in the University.
The IQAC members who are from various sectors such as Administration, Faculty,
Management, Technical Staff, Alumni, student, stakeholders, external experts give their
feedback on the various activities of the college.
Based on the feedback of the IQAC member’s further line of action for the upcoming
academic year is drawn to ensure improvement and development in the existing system.
The performance of the final year students, and success rate in various competitive
exams such as GATE, NET, SLET, GRE, TOEFL are also considered as indicators of
attainment of the various objectives.
Attainment of Course Outcomes: The course outcomes were prepared by the action
verbs of blooms taxonomy.The assessment of course outcomes are as follows:
Direct assessment:
2.End university Examination : For theory subjects the distribution shall be 30 marks for
Internal Evaluation and 70 marks for the End Examination. It is expected that a student
should score at least 40% of Maximum marks of the course for the attainment of course
outcomes. The marks scored by the students in Internal Examinations, Assignments and
End university exams are used to assess the attainment level of the whole course and
the course outcome attainment level.
3.Labs : For Labs, there shall be a continuous evaluation during the year for 20 internal
marks and 80 end examination marks. Out of 25 marks for the Internal, day to day work
in the Laboratory shall be evaluated for 15 marks and internal examination shall be
evaluated for 10 marks conducted by the concerned laboratory Faculty. The end
examination shall be conducted with external examiner and internal teacher.
Indirect assessment: Course end Survey: At the end of each semester a questionnaire is
distributed to all the enrolled students and take feedback on effectiveness of the course.
The questionnaire is prepared to know the efficiency and utility of the course outcomes.
Since COs are mapped to POs and PSOs,the values of COs are reflected in the respective
POs and PSOs.
Description: Assessment process for COs is described above.
Frequency: Every year.
Indirect assessment:
All students leaving the college on completion of program are given feedback forms to
give their assessment of POs and PSOs
Frequency:Every year from the graduating batch to give their assessment of POs and
PSOs POs and PSOs attainment: Final POs and PSOs attainment is calculated as
0.9*Direct assessment+0.1*Indirect assessment
