Computer-based instruction is often well-designed instruction. The hard work of an

instructional design team often ensures the quality of computer materials. Objectives are usually
clear and explicit. Instruction is carefully sequenced. The materials engage the learner's attention
and encourage learner activity. The program provides frequent feedback to the learner.
Instructional design teams often spend 100 h developing just 1 h of computer lessons

According to Gemma Navarro (2012) Computer Based is general purpose device which
can be programmed to carry out a finite set arithmetic or local operation. Computer has a big rule
in our nation today because of our technology. Wherever you go computer still exist, especially
in business it makes the procedure easy and secure by programming the manual system into a

As defined by Carolina Barcode Inc., a Point-of-Sale system is a computer software and hardware
networked together to track sales and inventory as they occur. Point-of-Sale systems will solve a multitude
of problems in your business. It is one of the focal points of any retail or hospitality business in the cash
register. The ability to process transactions and tender cash are essential to the efficient operation of the
enterprise. If you have a lot of cash transactions, replacing the cash registers with a Point-Of-Sale (POS)
system save you money (2013).

According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, “Inventory refers to stocks of

anything necessary to do business” (U.S. Small Business Administration, 2010) The U.S. Small
Business Administration publication describes what constitutes successful inventory management
balancing cost versus benefits of inventory, including Maintaining a wide assortment without
spreading the rapidly moving items too thin, Increasing inventory turnover without sacrificing
service, Keeping stock low without sacrificing performance, Obtaining lower prices by making
volume purchases, Maintaining an adequate inventory without an excess of obsolete items.

the difficulty of the manager in processing inventory because physical counting products, stocks and
computing inventory summary will be the system job. It will monitor the availability of products, items to
prevent under stocking, over stocking and running out of stocks. The system will also simplify the
transaction between dealer and supplier relationship because of the updated supplier information and price
list of items will correspond to collaboration with other supplier.”

Many people use computers in their daily lives. Some use it for transactions, some use it for
educational purposes and others use it for data storage. Though it might sound unnecessary but in some
cases when storing a file for such a big company, can you manage it properly? Organizing, finding a file,
etc. With computers, it can help you simplify the process of storing and managing the files you need for
future use and make finding files easier than the manual process. Computerized Sales and Inventory System
is a product of human knowledge with a use of technology so why not use technology as an advantage and
benefit ourselves. This proposed system aims to lighten works and solve the problems involving strict and
complex recording and calculations.

Inventory is one of the most important in monitoring a stock that take place in business activity.
The inventory system does the entire task in computing the value with inventory (cost and quality) and
handling data or information. Inventory System maintains an orderly flow of supplies, raw materials, or
finished goods through an office shop/factory because of items in any inventory. Represents cost, they need
to be controlled. The purpose of inventory system for management are to keep inventory levels and cost at
desire minimums while maintaining to proper safeguards over materials to places and people who need
them.

In business like merchandising, Sales and Inventory system plays an important role. It is used to
track all the transactions made by the business and responsible for monitoring the items supplies. All the
business transactions must be properly recorded and must be fully secured by password. A Computerized
system is the best solution and most innovative answer for their needs.

maximum efficiency and reduce the time taken to handle Payroll activity. It is designed to replace an
existing manual record system thereby reducing time taken for calculations and for storing data. The system
is strong to withstand regressive daily operations under conditions where the database is maintained and
cleared over a certain time of span.

An inventory management system can help you manage your business’s inventory and stock items,
keeping track of exactly where your assets are and what they’re worth. The system also analyzes your
business’s inventory needs and can even automate your ordering. Inventory management systems are
important for many industries including retail, food and beverage, manufacturing, health care and more. A
well-run system helps you understand your assets and maximize their potential, thus improving your
business operations and increasing profits

Kevin Johnston
BarcodesInc: Inventory system

Modern inventory systems help your business maintain profitability. Without a system, you could
be wasting money on inventory without being aware of it. You may be buying too much or not buying
enough. You could be spending money counting and trying to value your inventory. You may also be losing
money because you don’t know where your inventory is.

(Magat, 2007)

The Sales and Inventory System of the vital to any institution, agency, or department. The proper
safekeeping, processing and disposal of records play important roles in the efficient, effective and smooth
operation that eventually would lead to the success attainment of the goal and objectives of institution,
agency and department concerned. Based on her recommendation there should be a central record
management office that will hold data of the agency to serve as locator of the record and to control the
disposal of each record. This can be possible with computerized system. Computer with the appropriate
software package is capable of handling records efficiently and effectively

Inventory system maintain information about activities within firms that ensure the delivery of
products to customers. The subsystem that perform these functions include sales, manufacturing
warehousing ordering and receiving. In different firms the activities associated with each of these areas
may not be strictly contained within separate subsystem, but these function must be performed in
sequence in order to have a well-run inventory system.

To improve their efficiency and reduce their costs of operations. Reports are more timely and
accurate. Computers have a large capacity of store data and tremendous speed to manipulate and recall
data to the format a user wished to use which introduction of microcomputer computation of business Is
more affordable.

Hugo, Badenhorst-Weiss and Van Rooyen 2002:169

The aim of sales and inventory management system is to hold inventories at the lowest possible
cost, given the objectives to ensure uninterrupted supplies for on-going operations. When making
decisions on inventory, management has to find a compromise between the different cost components,
such as the costs of supplying inventory, inventory-holding costs and costs resulting from insufficient
inventories

Lonergan, M. (2001),
Strategic Purchasing and Supply Chain Management,London.
According to Lonergan, M. (2001), inventories are the main source of a company’s revenue and
profit. Sold inventories increase either cash or accounts receivable. The collected cash will then be used
to purchase inventory and pay the operating expenses of a company such as agents, rent, insurance,
utilities and so on. Thus, inventory serves as one of the lifeblood’s of a business.

Gerald Hobson (2003),

Beyond Partnership: Strategies for Innovation and Lean Supply

Gerald Hobson (2003), are also in agreement on the impact of inventory management on the
profitability of the organization. They contend that, it wouldn’t be possible for an enterprise to
maintain a reasonable profit margin if it had a poor inventory management system in the place, but
the increasing business and industrial activities call for an efficient and effective inventory control
and management system. The size itself calls for more economical operations so as to affect savings
thereby depriving the advantages of large-scale business and industrial operation.
Fuller & Johnson (2000) The rise and fall of management accounting, Harvard Business School Press,
Fuller (2000)
Fuller (2000) considers inventory management to be an important asset for allowing
production and sales operations to remain functioning smoothly by the stock service levels meeting
the demands of production and resale. In fact it is the achievement of high levels of stock service on
a minimum of stock investment that is at the heart of inventory management. Production and
marketing would of course like to meet all demand immediately from current stock and would
therefore call for strict inventory control and procurement management.
Dobler & Burt (2000) production and inventory control hand book, London
World Magazine (2002)

According to the World Magazine (2002), no inventory system will work efficiently unless
stock is tightly controlled and stock records are accurately managed. If the inventory is overstated
there is risk of stock – outs. If the Inventory balance is under-stated, there will be excess inventory.
All decisions on when and how much to order are based on the Inventory balance is of individual
items, which can be identified under a strong inventory management system in place.

Salleem (2004) Practical management science, practical guide to logistic, New Dhelli India.
The system will aid the existing problems regarding to the Point of Sale, Inventory and Monitoring
of the business. It will lessen the time and effort of both employees and manager on storing, retrieving
and monitoring of records of the business. The system’s database is more secure and reliable than the
traditional paper-based system making loss of records evitable and giving the employees easier
management of records.
3.PROBLEM ENCOUNTERED (PROBLEM THAT CAN BE SOLVED BY THE SYSTEM)

Salleem (2004) Practical management science, practical guide to logistic, New Dhelli India.
The problem of the conducted research is about the company’s sales monitoring and inventory
system. Keeping records of sales and inventories manually are the current method used by the company.
Due to this current method of inventory system, the company has encountered several problems
regarding the monitoring and stocks checking

Mr. Gragasin(2010)

A study conducted by Mr. Gragasin(2010). Entitled “A customized Sale and Inventory System for
Anespee Enterprise Hardware Carangian” concluded that the implementation of the Developed system
increases the business efficiency and effectively in terms of every transaction that they have. Managing
the records such as employee, customer, suppliers and transaction is faster and easier than using the
manual paper based system.

J.De Leon and M. Ferrer (2009)

According to J.De Leon and M. Ferrer (2009) Under the Korea Red Ginseng Enterprise Sales and
Inventory System, the researchers came up with a computerized sales and inventory system. The
proponents used database to easy access of files and for easier and faster processing of the selling and
inventory transaction. The program was designated to generate reports such as monthly reports,
inventory reports, sales invoice and list of items.

Sales and Inventory System

The basic advantage of the proposed system are to make the process fast and well-organized which
means that they can process much more quickly that humans. Data retrieval has to be searched in lots of
registers slowly and it wastes a lot of time. The current system that the company uses is manual receipt
recording. It makes the data not reliable enough as it is handwritten and there is a high probability of errors.
Data recording consume a lot of space since it is stored in cabinets and folders. It is also prone to data loss
where it could be missing because of improper file management.
Handerson (2004)

According to handerson (2004), they have three major advantages by using inventory system. There
are: Time saving, Accuracy, and Consistency which helps a lot for a businessman to increase the sales of
their business. Time saving, as the old saying goes “time is money”. Tne amount of time can be saved by a
business is, perhaps, the biggest benifits of using a computerized inventory system,a great example of this
benefits is the retail industry. I cases where the shop maintains all data manually, each manager must
reconcile each sales reciept with every piece of physical inventory.

This study aims to improve the inventory system of a certain organization by designing a
computerized system. It shall help to maintain an accurate and updated record of inventory on hand and
at cost. Whenever a sale or purchase is being made, the Computerized Inventory System shall record the
inflow and outflow of items. This will help lessen the time, effort and money consumed in conducting
inventory count. This will provide convenience to the owner and staff because an updated inventory count
would be available anytime. With this, it would be able to determine right away when to make an order
to avoid inventory shortage.

Inventory management is a vital part of any retail business. It provides information about the
condition of the products, as to whether the said-products are below their safety stock or not. It also
provides the customers with accurate information, especially when items are out-of-stock, back-ordered,
or pre-orderable. Failure to provide the customers with this information may result to a loss of future
business opportunities. Inventory management also determines which product is saleable and income-
generating and which is not. This information allows managers to make better business decisions on how
to market your products, and whether or not to carry them further.
Saxena. (2003), "Sales and Inventory ", European Journal of Operational Research

Ganderton, 2010

The best thing about having a computerized POS System in your retail business is: as new stocks
arrives and as it is sold, it keeps the stock levels current and updated, hence making it is easier to
identify which items are selling and which items are not. A POS System is also good in checking for any
obsolete or out of date stock that needs to be disposed. If you are still counting your inventory manually
on the shelves or in the warehouse, you should think twice about your method, for there are many
advantages in using a POS System. One advantage of a POS System is its ability to help your business
achieve detailed real-time stock level infXormation. In addition, a POS System can also give you
information such as weather forecasts, public holidays and major sporting events, which can be of great
help in determining the stock level of seasonal products. You can now efficiently and effectively handle
your stock management accurately.

Gerrad and Hobson (2004)

Gerrad and Hobson (2004), adds that efficient management of inventories may result in more
profit margin since it will reduce the operational and inventory cost resulting in reduction of
production costs, more competitive capacity, increased turnover and profitability. Surpluses cause
financial hardships because they tie up capital and shortages lead to poor operational results. But
satisfactory and specific inventory control eliminates the shortcomings hence its importance.
