Assignment 1 with respect to IAT1 (marks: 50)

2 marks:

1). Determine the values of K, J, Q and m (modular ratio) for the concrete
grade of M30 and Fe415?

2). what are the minimum percentages of Area of Steel (Ast) for slab, beam,
column and footing design?

3). Mention any two advantages of introducing compression steel in reinforced

concrete beams.

4). what is called balanced section in Reinforced concrete design?

5). Write the check for shear in slabs? What happens when the nominal shear
stress exceeds the permissible shear stress and what can be done to take care of
this condition? Write the formulae wherever it’s required.

16 marks:

1). Write short notes on Working stress method and Ultimate load method.

2). Design a rectangular section for a simply supported reinforced concrete

beam of effective span of 5m carrying a concentrated load of 40kN at its mid
span. The concrete to be used is of grade M20 and the reinforcement consists of
Fe415 steel bars. Draw the reinforcement diagram for anyone of the condition
below:

(a). Self weight of beam is ignored.

(b). Self weight of beam is considered.

Use working stress method of design.

3). Design of one way simply supported slab on a clear span of 4m, the width of
the supports being 300mm. The dead load on the slab may be taken as 1000
N/m2 excluding it’s self weight. The live load on the slab is 2000N/m2. Use
M25 grade concrete and Fe415 grade steel. Adopt working stress method. Draw
the reinforcement diagram
Assignment 2 with respect to IAT2 (marks: 50)

2 marks:

1). what are the differences between one way and two way slabs. Write at least
3 points for each slab.

2). what are called as un-cracked and cracked section in RCC design?

3). If the slabs are provided as restrained slabs then what is the IS456
recommends to take care of torsion? And draw the reinforcement diagram to
show where will be the Torsion reinforcement to be provided?

4). Compute the area of reinforcement required for a balanced section of width
200mm and effective depth 425mm as per working stress method. Use M30
grade concrete and Fe415 grade steel.

5). List the advantages of Limit state method.

16 marks:

1). Write short notes on Limit state method with respect to IS456-2000
recommendations.

2). Design a slab over a room 5m x 6m as per IS code. The slab is simply
supported on masonry walls all around with adequate restraint and the corners
are held down. The live load on the slab is 4kN/m2. The slab has a bearing of
200mm as the supporting walls. Use M25 grade of concrete and Fe500 grade of
steel. Draw the reinforcement diagram.

3). An R.C.C slab has to be provided over a room of size 5m x 7m. The width of
the supports is 300mm. The slab is considered to be two short edges are
discontinuous. The live load acting on the slab is 5kN/m2. Floor finish load is
1kN/m2. Use M25 grade of concrete and Fe415 grade of steel. Draw the
reinforcement diagram.
