T hose only are believers whose hearts become full of fear when Allah is
mentioned, and when His revelations are recited to them they increase
them in faith, and in their Lord do they trust.
Holy Qur’an (8:2)

Word of Wisdom “Indeed Allah has hidden three things in three

others: His pleasure in His obedience. So do not
belittle anything from His obedience since His pleasure may be in the
same one. And Allah has concealed His wrath and anger in sins. So
do not belittle any sin and consider it to be small. May be the wrath of
Allah is in it. And He has concealed His friends and saints among the
people. So do not look down upon any one perhaps he may be the
friend and saint of Allah”.
Imam Muhammed Al-Baqir (P)
(Bihar al-Anwaar)

Article Hadrat Muslim Ibne Aqeel

When thinking about Karbala, many people
think about the virtues of Imam Husayn (P), the bravery of Hadrat Ab-
bas (P), the courage of Hadrat Zainab (P) and others. We barely think
about the important deeds of Hadrat Muslim bin Aqeel (P). We know
that he was sent to Kufa, as an envoy for the Imam (P), but our knowl-
edge after that is limited.

Story Imam Muhammed Al-Baqir (P)
Conversation with a Christian Scholar
Imam Al-Sadiq (P) said, “one day I and my father came out of the
assembly of Hisham. We happened to pass by a place where a group of
Christians had come to ask questions from their scholar. We too went
there to see what the affair was. We saw an old man with gray hair and
gray eyebrows sitting among them. We also sat among the aggregation.
The followers of Jesus Christ (P) were sitting before him like worthless
children, and were asking him questions. The old man’s eye caught the
sight of my father Imam Muhammed Al-Baqir (P) and he said, “Are you
from among us or from among the followers of Muhammed (P).”
My father answered from among the followers of Muhammed (P). He
said, “Are you from among the scholars or the ignorant”? My father said,
“I am not from among the ignorant.” The old man said, “Shall I ask you
question or you will ask me.” My father said, “You question me.”
The aged man was surprised. He had a look upon my father and said,
“Oh servant of God, let me know about the time which is neither day
nor night.”
My father replied, “Between the dawn and the sunrise.”
He asked, “From which time is it?”
My father said, “From the times (hours) of the Paradise, the ailing
ones gain their senses in this hour (time), the pains become relieved,
and the one who had a sleepless night goes to sleep at this time.”
The man said, “The people in paradise eat and drink but do not ex-
crete anything, is there any thing in the world similar to them?”
My father said, “Yes the embryo which eats in the mother womb but
nothing segregates from whatever it eats.”
The man said, “Let me know if there is anything in the world similar
to your claim that the people in paradise eat and drink but nothing is
lessened and shortened, and that returns to its original shape.”
My father said, “Yes it is candle that if a hundred other candles are lit
by it, nothing gets lessened out of it.”
The Christian scholar got up from his place and said, “This man is
wiser then me.” When he knew that he was Imam Muhammed Al-Baqir
(P), he embraced Islam.
Facts •Imam Muhammad Al-Baqir was said to have been
high esteemed for his learning and eloquence as
well as on account of his noble birth.
•Then Imam stood for his prayers and lengthened the prostration. When
he picked his head up, the place of prostration was wet with tears from
his eyes.
•The period before his Imamate which is nearly 35 years and was the
peaceful part of his life, led in Madina.

The Imam (P) sent Hadrat Muslim (P) to Kufa, where he was received
with a lot of joy and respect. Omar bin Saad and others secretly informed
Yazeed, the ruler of that time about what was happening in Kufa. Yazeed
appointed Ibne Ziad to govern Kufa. Ibne Ziad was a cruel and ruthless
governor. He was ordered to arrest Hadrat Muslim (P) and put him to
death.
Yazeed also ordered Ibne Ziad to place guards in such a way that the
only way Imam Husayn (P) could enter was through Kufa. Ibne Ziad
commissioned a slave to locate Hadrat Muslim (P), who at that time, was
hiding in the house of Hani ibne Urwa. Ibne Ziad ordered Urwa to hand
over Hadrat Muslim (P), but he flatly refused. Urwa was subsequently
killed, but for what reason? For the reason that he did not hand a mem-
ber of the Prophet’s (P) family over to his enemy. Hadrat Muslim (P) was
left without a home. He was discovered by Taw’a, an old lady. She took
him to her house and he stayed there. When Taw’a’s son arrived home,
he discovered Hadrat Muslim (P) and told Ibne Ziad of his whereabouts.
Upon hearing this, Ibne Ziad sent out 300 soldiers to the house of Taw’a.
Hadrat Muslim (P) fought off half and the rest dispersed. In response, to
this, Ibne Ziad sent 500 men to fight Hadrat Muslim (P).
Hadrat Muslim (P) fought them off, but in the end, he was outnum-
bered. When his body was returned to Ibne Ziad, the ruthless governor
decapitated the cousin of the Imam (P), threw his body down from the
roof of his castle, and had Hadrat Muslim’s (P) body dragged up and
down the streets of Kufa. It is said that there was a woman who ran
and followed Hadrat Muslims (P) body when it was dragged around Kufa.
This woman (P) is said to have been his mother, Bibi Fatima (P). His
head was placed on the city gate, serving as a precaution for those who
would follow the Imam.
