William shakespeare, the author of the play Romeo & Juliet tells a tragic love story of

two teens named Romeo & Juliet. The teens love each other but then their families are
enemies which prevents them from being together. In the end the only way to be
together is in death.

Throughout the play shakespeare expresses his belief that love forces one to choose
between individual identity vs group identity, though character interactions & character
actions.

In the beginning of Romeo & Juliet, Shakespeare develops the idea that when you are
in love it can change your individual identity. For example in act one scene 5 Romeo
says to Juliet “then move not while my prayer's effect I take (he kisses her) thus from
my lips the sin that is purged.” Juliet says to Romeo “then my lips the sin that they have
took.” The evidence shows that Romeo wanted to make the choice to kiss her while
Juliet allows it to happen. This is a problem because both of their families hate each
other. In conclusion characters actions can change your individual identity.

Eventually in Romeo & Juliet, shakespeare believes that when you are in love your
individual identity change. For instance Romeo says to Tybalt “but love thee better thou
canst de rise” In this act it show Romeo isn’t fighting back with Tybalt or arguing with
him. Romeo is making the decision not to instigate with him. Another example “my
reputation stain with tybalt slander.” This shows individual identity because it was
Romeo's decision to be in between Mercutio & Tybalt to stop them from fighting. He
could have let them fight but he choose to stop them. At the end it didn't help & Mercutio
get stabbed by Tybalt, because Romeo was in between them. In the end characters
interactions can convert your individual identity.

Last in Romeo & Juliet, shakespeare believes that when you are in love your individual
identity converts. For example in act 1 scene 1 the prince says “if you ever disturb our
streets again again your lives shall forfeit of the peace.” In this quote the prince is
making the decision for the families. He could have made a different choice for them
that doesn't involve death. Next in act 4, scene 1 Juliet says to Friar Laurence “ I long to
die if what thou speak'st speak not of remedy.” When Juliet says this she is willing to
take her life if there is no solution. This a issue because Juliet wants to kill herself which
is a horrible decision to do. Later on in act 3, scene 3 Romeo says “There is no world
without verona walls but purgatory, torture, hell itself.” Romeo doesn't want to live
outside of verona. But cannot stay because he had killed Tybalt & is now banished
because of his own choices. In short characters interactions will possibly covert your
individual identity.
