Topic / Title: The Particle Nature of Matter

Grade Level : Grade 8
Time Allotment : 60 minutes / 1 day
Prepared by : Mary Jean O. Balentoza
Aizelle M. Taratara

I. Objectives
A. Content Standard
Demonstrate understanding of the particle nature of matter as basis for explaining
properties, physical changes, and structure of substances and mixtures.

B. Learning Competencies and Objectives

Explains the properties of solids, liquids and gases based on the particle nature of
matter (S8MT-IIIa-b-8)

At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

a. infer that the particles of matter always move;
b. differentiate the characteristics of particles in the three phases of matter;
c. draw the particle models of the three phases of matter.
II. Content
Chemistry – Movement of Particles of Matter

III. Learning Resources

A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide pp. 122-124
2. Learner’s Materials pages : 178-179
B. Materials
Laptop, materials needed in the activity, perfume or cologne
IV. Presentation
A. Elicit
Activity 1: TRUTH or DARE
Objective: Students will decide whether the statements are TRUTH (true) or DARE
(false).
B. Engage
Demonstration. The teacher will spray a perfume or cologne in front of the class and
then ask the students at the back can smell the fragrance of the perfume. Why or why
not?

C. Explore
The students will do the activity on Learner’s Module pg. 178

Activity 2: Are the Particles of Matter Moving? What is between them?
D. Explain
1. The teacher will use power point presentation to discuss the findings and ask key
questions.
E. Elaborate
1. Students will fill up the table from the ideas presented during the group activities
and insights inputted by the teacher.
