The average age of a father of a newborn in the United States increased from 27.4 years
old to 30.9 years old between 1972 and 2015. Asian-American dads -- in particular, men of
Japanese and Vietnamese descent -- were the oldest fathers, the study found. Their ages
ranged upward of 36 years old, on average. More years of education also correlated with
fatherhood happening at an older age during the 44-year study period. Typically, fathers with
college degrees are just over 33 years old. (Michael Eisenberg 2017).
