GOAL
SOLUTION
A summary account is an account whose balance is the sum of balances from multiple detail accounts
-Used to perform online summary inquires, as well as speed the processing of financial reports, mass
allocations, and recurring journal formulas
-Summary templates are used to create summary accounts.
While defining the parent accounts, Allow Budgeting and Allow Posting must be set to NO.
Rollup Groups
Your template creates and maintains a summary account for every detail segment value. This value
creates the most summary accounts of any template value
See Note:1013629.6
A template using D values for each segment will duplicate your chart of accounts, and may corrupt your
data
Your template creates and maintains a summary account that sums balances of all detail segment values.
This value creates the fewest summary accounts of
any template value
A template using T values for each segment will have zero balance if your general ledger is in balance
YES. If you enter T for a segment, all summary accounts created by the template will have the value T for
the segment. Therefore, the value T must be defined and enabled for a segment value. It should be
defined automatically but if you
need to define it manually make sure it is a parent and do not assign children.
See Note:1063199.6
11. Does Add/Delete Summary Program dynamically create accounts that meet the summary
template criteria?
NO, It just groups the existing accounts to meet the summary template criteria
See Note:1069467.6
12. How many concurrent requests are generated when you run the Add/Delete Summary
Program?
14. If a change is made to one of the parents that are assigned to the Rollup group, what
needs to be done to ensure summary accounts are updated?
GL Optimizer
Maintain Summary template program
It is better to run Maintain Summary Template program before posting
No. Summary accounts actually slow posting performance because they add more combinations to
gl_code_combinations which is one of the tables posting uses in the validation process. The more
combinations to check, the slower the process will be.
Yes, this grouping of accounts cuts down on the number of individual selects made to the table, therefore
increasing performance
18. Will the history of an old summary template be in Summary Account Inquiry?
NO. When you drop a summary template, and reassign the child values, Summary Account Inquiry does
not save the history of the previous accounts
