CHAPTER I

SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE

Simple Present Tense adalah bentuk waktu sekarang sehubungan dengan fakta atau
tindakan yang biasa dilakukan sehari-hari. Untuk memahami pelajaran ini dimulai dengan
latihan lisan dan membaca (Reading and Oral Practice), latihan pola dan tata bahasa
(Structure and Pattern Practice), latihan intonasi dan ucapan (Pronunciation and Intonation
Practice dan latihan umum (General Practice).
Tujuan bab ini adalah agar mahasiswa dapat memahami bentuk waktu Simple Present
Tense dalam membaca, menulis dan menggunakannya percakapan.

1. READING AND ORAL PRACTICE

Simple Present Tense dari kata kerja Bahasa Inggris dibentuk dari bentuk dasar
(infinitive), sebagai berikut:

Perhatikan bahwa sesudah he, she dan it –orang ketiga tunggal—s/es ditambahkan
pada kata kerja.

walk, walks leave, leaves dress, dresses


Simple Present Tense diperlukan untuk kegiatan yang menjadi kebiasaan atau biasa
dilakukan secara teratur pada saat sekarang.
Pertanyaan dibentuk dengan kata kerja bantu do. Bentuk does digunakan untuk he,
she, it.
Singular Plural
Do I begin? Do we begin?
Do you begin? Do you begin?
Does he begin ?
Does she begin? Do they begin?
Does it begin ?

Perhatikan bahwa it digunakan sebagai subjek pengganti benda tunggal, he sebutan


pengganti bagi pria dan she sebutan pengganti bagi wanita. They adalah bentuk jamak untuk
ketiganya.

School begins at nine o'clock. It begins at nine o'clock.


The buses arrive before nine o'clock. They arrive before nine o'clock.

They arrive before nine o'clock.

What time digunakan untuk menanyakan waktu ketika jawaban yang diharapkan
adalah jam dan menit. Perhatikan bahwa kalimat-kalimat yang menyatakan tentang waktu
dimulai dengan it.

It's eleven o'clock now.

Good morning adalah salam yang biasa diucapkan hingga jam 12 tepat tengah hari.
How are you? Adalah pertanyaan yang biasa diajukan terhadap kesehatan seseorang, dan I’m
fine adalah salah satu jawaban umum. Inilah salam yang biasanya sangat singkat dalam

3. PRONUNCIATION AND INTONATION PRACTICE


A. The s ending of verbs has three different pronunciations, like the plural form of
nouns. Repeat several times.
