Gud Question:
Q: When a number N is divided by M, it leaves a remainder of 11.
When N is divided by 8M, the remainder is 92.
What is the remainder when N is divided by 4M.
(1) 11
(2) 92
(3) 46
(4) Cannot be determined.
Ans:
N = Mp + 11 -------------> (1)
N = (8M)q + 92 -------------> (2)
Equating (1) & (2)
M(p-8q) = 81
The product of the two numbers M and (p-8q) is 81.
Possible values of M are 1, 3, 9, 27, 81
When N is divided by M, the remainder is 11, so the
value of M has to be greater than 11.
Hence possibilities are 27, 81
I think u must have got it upto possible values of M i.e. 27 and 81. now lets consider 92/4M. as shown
4M may be 27x4 = 108 or 81 x 4 = 324. since both the numbers are greater than 92 u will get a
remainder of 92 in both cases.
p.s. u cannot cancel out the fractions while finding the remainder.
e.g. remainder of 10/8 is 2 not 10/8 = 5/4 meaning rem = 1.
we are sure that every even term above 2^2 i.e 4^4,6^6 ...et all would
be divisible by 8
so now we are left with only 1^1+2^2=5 and hence the remainder.

Solution :
If you notice only numbers which do not satisfy the condition are the
ones for which N+1 is PRIME
No of Prime from 2-31 : 11
So totally 11+1 = 12
30-12 = 18

3. We should start with min X=2 as Y max wil be equal to 32...(2, 32)
Then second set will be X=5 and Y=30 ...(5, 30)
simlarly we get (8, 28), (11, 26)....and last set will be (47, 2)
so in all we will be having 16 such pairs -------- (c)

here are 3 persons Sudhir, Arvind, and Gauri. Sudhir lent cars to Arvind and Gauri
as many as they had already. After some time Arvind gave as many cars to Sudhir and
Gauri as many as they have. After sometime Gauri did the same thing. At the end of this
transaction each one of them had 24.
ans is 39 21 12
(2) What is the least number that should be multiplied to 100! to make it perfectly divisible by 350?
(1) 144 (2) 72 (3) 108 (4) 216
Solution:
100! has 348 as the greatest power of 3 that can divide it. Similarly, the greatest power of 2 that can
divide 100! is 297. 297 = 448 * 21.
Method 2:
Q: What is the least number that should be multiplied to 100! to make it perfectly divisible by 350?
Solution:
100/3 = 33
33/3 = 11
11/3 = 3
3/3 = 1
33+11+3+1 = 48
(100! = 100*99*.....3*2*1
so
there are
100 /3 = 33 ............3's
now 9 contains two 3's, one is already taken care of above....so we have to consider the other one...
therefore
To make 3^50 perfectly divisible by 100! We need to multiply 100! By a number that has 2 more 3’s
in it
(11) There are 12 pipes attached to a tank. Some of them are fill pipes and some are drain pipes.
Each of the fill pipes can fill the tank in 12 hours, while each of the drain pipes will take 24 hours to
drain a full tank completely. If all the pipes are kept open when the tank was empty, it takes 2 hours
for the tank to overflow. How many of these pipes are drain pipes? (1) 6 (2) 11 (3) 4 (4) 7
Solution:
There are 12 pipes attached to the tank. Let ‘n’ of them be fill pipes. Therefore, there will be 12-n
drain pipes.
Each fill pipe, fills the tank in 12 hours. Therefore, th of the tank gets filled every hour by one fill pipe.
Each drain pipe drains the tank in 24 hours. That is, th of the tank gets drained by one drain pipe
every hour.
12-n drain pipes, will therefore, drain th of the tank in an hour.
When all the pipes are open when the tank is empty, it takes 2 hours for the tank to overflow. i.e. ½
the tank gets filled every hour.
Hence the following method should be used to find the ratio in which they should be mixed.
Step 1. Find out the ratio of QA : QC using alligation rule
Step 2. Find out the ratio of QB : QC using alligation rule
Step 3. QC, the resultant ratio of variety c can be found by adding the value of QC in step 1 and step
2 = 1 + 1 = 2.
However, in CAT if you try and solve the problem using the above method, you will end up spending
more than 2, and may be 3 minutes on this problem, which is a criminal mismanagement of time.
The best way to solve a problem of this kind in CAT is to go from the answer choices as shown below
1 kg of variety A at Rs.60 is mixed with 4 kgs of variety B at Rs.75 and 2 kgs of variety C at Rs.100.
The total cost for the 7 kgs = 60 + (4 * 75) + (2 * 100) = 60 +300 + 200 = 560.
Cost per kg of the mixture = 560/7 = 80 kgs.
Even assuming that you hit upon the right answer as the last choice, you will still be better of going
back from the answer.
n=0 n=0
E (2n+1)^2 - E (2n)^2,
99 100
= -(2*100)^2 + E (4n + 1)
= -(2*100)^2 + 4*E (n + 1)
= -40000 + 99 + 4*99*100/2
= -40000 + 99 + 19800
= -20101
is the answer
a) n/(n-1)
b) 2n/(n+1)
c) n/(n+1)
d) None of these
so on all the terms will get cancelled when add them up and you will end up
with
1 - n/(n+1) = n/(n+1)
so answer is (c)
Ans: 7,
the average of n consecutive numbers is (n+1)/2, so the n in the given case
is near to 70. And since the new average is (35 + 7/17) , the number has got
something to do with multiples of 17. So, total numbers before erasing are,
69 ( since all are integers, we can assume so ), and thus, we can write the
entire thing as,
Assume erased number is x.
(69*35-x )/68 = (35*17 + 7)/17
(2415-x)/68 = 602/17 => 2408/68
that means the x = 2415 - 2408 , What say?
Method 2:
answer has to be X....
jus solve this eqn i hope it is self explanatory... short and simple
if you want short cut, here is mine ( cud be bettered by someone else too
:-) )
let the time taken to do the job by ABC together be 2x, then we will have
only A -> 2x+5
only B -> 6x
only C -> 9x
now go straight to answer choices, and start with the ones having 2 as a
factor.
(b)
A - 9 hrs
B - 12 hrs
C - 18 hrs
thus together they can do the job in, 36/(4+3+2) = 4 hrs
so (b) is the answer
Actually i was abit lucky to choose (b) to start with, but anyways, you can
find it with in 1.5 min
a,b,c,d are distinct positive ints and x is a perfect square such that x
= (a+b)^2 + (c-d)^ 2, wtih the condition that b,c,d are primes and a is
neither prime nor compisite. Find the value of x^2 if b+c+d is minimum?
ANS:
Now displacement along the x axis - 1 + 1/4 + 1/16 + .....
this is , 1/(1-1/4) = 4/3
displacement along the y axis - (1/2-1/8) + (1/32-1/128) + .......
this is (3/8)(1-1/16) = 2/5

Answer: 11
990 = 9 * 10 * 11, and since 11 is a prime number, the n must be greater
than or equal to 11, so n is 11.

First, I am assuming that the 100 in 100! is a base-10 number, and not a base-6 number. (If it was supposed to be a
base-6 number equivalent to 36 base 10, then simply replace my starting point 100 in the calculations below with
36.) To get a 0 at the end of a product in base 6, you need prime factors that, when multiplied together, give you 6 -
so you need a factor of 2 and a factor of 3. To find the number of 0's at the end of 100! in base 6, then, you need to
determine the total number of factors of 2 and the total number of factors of 3 among the numbers 1 to 100
inclusive. number factors of 2 in 100!.... 100/2 = 50 50/2 = 25 25/2 = 12 12/2 = 6 6/2 = 3 3/2 = 1 1/2 = 0 ----- 97
number factors of 3 in 100!.... 100/3 = 33 33/3 = 11 11/3 = 3 3/3 = 1 1/3 = 0 ---- 48 With 48 factors of 3 and 97
factors of 2 among the numbers 1 to 100 inclusive, there will be 48 0's at the end of the base-6 representation of 100!
Let's take that example for base 42. I'll just use [0] - [41] as the 42 digits in the system; then your sample problem
becomes [4] * [13] = [1] [10] since 4*13 = 52 = 1*42 + 10.
Actually, the concept of base doesn't require any particular way to represent the digits. You could write numbers in
base 10 using, say, Chinese characters, or any random symbols you choose, and you can use any symbols you want
for base 42 as well. We tend to use a simple method for bases from 11 to 36 or so: use 0 - 9, then letters A - Z
(possibly dropping I and O). The only bases above ten I'm familiar with in actual use by humans are 16
(hexadecimal, used in computers, which uses 0-9 and A-F), and 12 (used in schools, sometimes with 0-9 and T and
E for ten and eleven instead of A and B). But it's really up to you to define the symbols you use if you write numbers
in an unfamiliar base.
