Lesson Plan in English

Grade 8

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:


a) determine the Types of Correspondence;
b) create at least one (1) type of correspondence; and
c) recognize the importance of addressing a letter through an essay.
II. Subject Matter

Topic: Types of Correspondence

Materials: Visual aids and Pictures

III. Procedures
A. Preliminary Activities
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Classroom Management
 Checking of Attendance
 Motivation
 The students will play the “The Last Man Standing” game. As the teacher
say their section’s name (sections may vary) the last student to stand
would be the one to answer the following question:
 What are the six parts of a business letter?
 This contains the return address, what is this?
 This is the address you are sending your letter to, what is this?

B. Lesson Proper
a) Activity
- The class will be divided into four (5) five groups. Each group will have
representative and he/she will pick strips of paper that are written from
A, B, C, D, and E. A-Memos, B-Request or Order Letters, C-Complaint
or Adjustment Letter, D-Appreciation or Commendation Letter, and E-
Letter of Application. (These will be revealed later in the Application part
of the lesson plan)
b) Analysis
The teacher will ask the following questions randomly:
 What are your intensions in writing a letter?
 How would you prove that your letter served its purpose?
c) Abstraction
- The teacher will discuss the following:
 Memos- are standard forms of communication in many businesses.
They are concise messages, generally covers one topic. While they do
not include all parts of a letter, they still tell the reader who, what, where,
why, and how. Most memos are meeting notices, summaries of
meetings, or requests for action or information.

 Request or Order Letter- A request letter asks for something. For


example, you might want to write a college to request a course catalog
or a city’s chamber of commerce for brochure. An order letter is a
request letter that is written to order merchandise by mail when a printed
order form is not available.

 Complaint or Adjustment Letter- It is written to point out errors that


require attention and correction.
 Appreciation or Commendation Letter- It compliment or expresses
appreciation to a person, a group, or an organization.

 Letters of Application- is to provide a possible employer or a selection


committee with information that will convince them that you are a good
candidate for a position.

d) Application
In the same group, the teacher will reveal the meaning of the strips of
paper; A-Memos, B-Request or Order Letters, C-Complaint or Adjustment
Letter, D-Appreciation or Commendation Letter, and E- Letter of
Application. They will be given 5 minutes to complete this activity. The first
group to finish will be given additional 5 (five) points.

IV. Evaluation
Directions: On a ¼ sheet of paper, Write True of the statement is correct and if
false, write the correct answer.
1. Complaint or Adjustment Letter is to provide a possible employer or a
selection committee with information that will convince them that you are
a good candidate for a position.
2. Request Letter is a request letter that is written to order merchandise by
mail when a printed order form is not available.
3. Memos are concise messages, generally covers one topic.
4. Letters of Application compliments or expresses appreciation to a
person, a group, or an organization.
5. Order Letter is written to point out errors that require attention and
correction.

V. Assignment
Directions: On a ½ crosswise, answer the question below.
 What is the importance of addressing a letter? At least 3-5
sentences.
