Scania ADR vehicles

Scania factory-fitted ADR vehicles incorporate
the following technical features:
• A battery master switch, S40. The driver
can use this to cut off the vehicle's entire
supply of electric power. The battery
master switch is located under the vehicle
battery shelf. It can be operated either from
inside the cab or outside it. Two versions of
the ADR battery master switch are
available: A single pole version for LHD
vehicles and a 2 pole version for RHD
vehicles. The battery master switch is
described in Component Manual 16:06-11.
• A ventilated and internally insulated
battery box. The battery terminals are
protected by plastic covers.
• Heavy-duty insulation on cables in the
chassis (not on cables in the cab).
• Sealed components on the frame behind
the cab.
• All earthing points on the frame behind the
cab are grouped at an earthing point below
the cab.
• The tachograph is protected by a fused
circuit. When the current is cut off via the

Two types of ADR

electrical system
Two different types of electrical system are
found on Scania ADR vehicles. One is a
chassis-earthed system for LHD vehicles and
the other a chassis-insulated system for RHD
vehicles.
Chassis earthed system

All earth cables behind the cab are routed and
earthed on the frame under the cab. These
vehicles are fitted with a single pole battery
master switch.
Chassis insulated system

All earthing points in the cab and on the chassis
are insulated, i.e. connected to insulated
junction blocks. There are three exceptions to
this where the earth cables are connected to the
chassis:
• Fuel level sensor
• Coolant level sensor
• Horn relay
These components are earthed via a 315 mA
fuse.
Chassis-insulated vehicles have a two pole
battery master switch.

Wiring Diagrams
There are two types of wiring diagram in the

Scania Workshop Manual:
• Connection diagram
• Circuit diagram
Connection diagram
The connection diagram shows which
components are included in the electrical
system and how these components are
connected to each other via the wiring harness.
The components in all diagrams are drawn in
the rest position. Thus, the switches are not
activated.
The connection diagram is based on a
coordinate system. The horizontal axis runs
from 1 to 8 and the vertical axis from A to F.
The connection diagram for basic equipment in
the vehicle is divided into five sheets:
• List of components
• Instrument panel and cab
• Central electrical unit
• Chassis and frame
• Cab roof
The components in these diagrams are
described in the list of components in this
booklet.
The connection diagram for equipment that can
be selected consists of one (sometimes two)
sheets, depending on the size and complexity
of the system

Wiring Diagrams
Circuit diagram
The circuit diagram shows the electrical system
divided into functional circuits. The diagram
shows the component connections in each
circuit, where the component's power comes
from and where it is earthed. The circuit
diagram gives no indication of the location of
the components in the vehicle. The purpose of
the diagram is to show the circuit
configuration.
The components are placed in "current paths"
which are oriented vertically in the diagram.
The current paths are marked with their number
in the lower margin of the diagram. The current
path number serves as a reference system
between the individual components in the
diagram.
To avoid having a tangle of cables
crisscrossing the diagram, certain cables have
been "cut" and terminate in a reference box.
The reference box contains the current path
number where the cable continues.
The text inn the diagrams is in English only. A
translation of this text is provided in the section
entitled Cable Marking and Translation Table.

Cable marking
General
The cables in the wiring diagram are marked
according to a particular system. The marking
covers function, colour and cross-section, if not
0,75 mm².
The marking also provides information on
where the cable is connected (address).
