Observation/Demonstration
Throughout this unit, you will be expected to show your competency of the elements through
observations or demonstrations. Your instructor will have a list of demonstrations you must
complete or tasks to be observed. The observations and demonstrations will be completed as well as
the activities found in this workbook. An explanation of demonstrations and observations:

Demonstration is off-the-job

A demonstration will require:

 Performing a skill or task that is asked of you

 Undertaking a simulation exercise

Observation is on-the-job

The observation will usually require:

 Performing a work based skill or task

 Interaction with colleagues and/or customers

Your instructor will inform you of which one of the above they would like you to do. The
demonstration/observation will cover one of the unit’s elements.

The observation/demonstration will take place either in the workplace or the training environment,
depending on the task to be undertaken and whether it is an observation or demonstration. Your
instructor will ensure you are provided with the correct equipment and/or materials to complete the
task. They will also inform you of how long you have to complete the task.

stakeholders will provide you with advice on how to shape the future of the
business. What are their thoughts on organisational vision, mission, values and

measures through consultation with key stakeholders.

Objective To provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge of the
foundation skills, knowledge evidence and performance evidence.

Answer each question in as much detail as possible, considering your


organisational requirements for each one.
All answers will vary depending on the learner and the organisation they work for
but the learner should be able to answer each question competently.

1. What impact should strategic planning have in the development of your


business plan? Which aspects of the strategic plan do you feel your
organisation need to alter before writing the business plan?

2. Who are the key stakeholders in your organisation? Make a list of the
stakeholders who will have an interest in your business plan, and compare
answers in pairs. Go through your list and discuss why it might be useful to
consult with each stakeholder prior to writing the business plan.

3. Discuss as a group the legislative requirements you have to consider when


implementing a business plan. Will your company require a change in legal
status?

4. You have noticed that an employee has not been meeting performance
objectives. In pairs, perform a role play of a confidential chat between the
worker and manager to address the situation. Take the role of the manager
and worker in turn. For the purposes of the role play, one employee has
only recently started under-performing, while the other has consistently
under-performed.

Objective To provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge of the
entire unit.
Activity This is a major activity – your instructor will let you know whether you will
complete it during class or in your own time.

You must individually, answer the following questions in full to show your
competency of each element;
1. Develop business plan
2. Monitor performance
3. Training plan

1. Develop a draft business plan for your organisation in a format that can be
presented to the rest of the group. Your draft plan should contain the
following:

 Using your answers from Activity 1B, you should present your
businesses’ mission and vision statements. Have these altered for
the creating of a new business plan?
 Your goals and objectives
 Market analysis – who are your competitors?
 Financial targets
 The products or services you will introduce/update
 Your financial, physical and human, and licence requirements
 Which stakeholders will you consult with?
 KPIs – organisational, department, and individual performance
targets
 Training needs for current and new staff

2. How will you monitor and respond to business performance once the plan
has been implemented? Discuss your answers in pairs. You should consider:

 How you will test performance measurement systems, and report


your findings to key stakeholders
 The process for reporting system failures
 How often will you analyse performance reports against planned
objectives and review KPIs? What methods of data analysis will you
use?
 What role will continuous improvement have in reviewing system
processes and methods?

3. You should now present your draft business plan to the rest of the group.
Listeners should make note of what they see as the main strengths and
weaknesses in the plan, and provide this feedback to the presenter.
