Sorry but I can’t make it on Monday 23 May as I’m visiting an external supplier and I’m not coming

Shall I book a room?

Dear Mike,

I’m going to be at a conference for the rest of the week. Would you do me a favor and deal with a
few things for me while I’m away? Would you mind asking Jason Black to leave his report on my desk
for when I get back? Also, I’d really appreciate it if you could also let the sales team know
tomorrow’s meeting has been postponed until next Wednesday.

Thanks

Franz

Unit 1: Dilemma and Decision

Board Members of Transal,

This e-mail is written to recommend what our team concluded when we analyzed this given
situation regarding the options for developing a responsible culture within out organization. We
suggest that we go on the path of the Safety Charity Challenge.

We realized that we have the following reasons for this particular choice:

1 The past tested solutions did not succeed

2 This proposal will spark interest in-between the workers

3 The scheme focuses on positive action and the impact is easy to notice and review

4 The solution is cheaper in comparison to other options.

The idea of Charity approach will have a huge positive publicity and is very cost-effective as
well, but it remains to be tried and then we will jump to conclusions.

Best wishes,

Catalin Antoniu

Unit 2: dilemma and decision

TASK 1

Cultural factors might affect the success of appointing a foreign CEO at Nissan

 The Japanese have a strong sense to belonging to the group; foreigner may have difficulty
being accepted by them.
 Japanese language has a vague way to express ideas
 Negotiating and decisions making often take place outside any formal meeting context

 Japan has an indirect culture, being direct seem rude and impolite.
 They place a lot of importance on events starting and finishing on time.
 They prefer to build long-term business relationships and invest a lot of personal time
socialising out of office hours to create trust and understanding.
 In a Japanese organization the most important resource is its staff.

TASK 2

LOUIS SCHWEITZER´S NOTES

As you can realize Nissan has lost money for the sixth consecutive year, the company´s debts have
soured $19 billion and nowadays, they´re losing $1000 dollars on every car we produce, therefore
we need a plan that improves this terrible situation, we´ve thought that it could be possible to
implement new strategies in our Sales and Marketing departments as checking new markets or
make an innovation in the cars, also we want to do research for having right reasons and attack in
which we´re failing.

CARLOS GHOSN´S NOTES

To accept the assignment is a very hard decision, Nissan is losing a lot of money very quickly and set
a solution is a slow activity. It is possible that one of the solution might be eliminate jobs and
factories, the company must be agree with this possibility because it might mean reduce cost and
get profit. In order to take the job is necessary to talk about:

 How Japanese people are going to take the decision of a foreign CEO: If Japanese
employees do not accept me like their new boss I won´t take the assignment.
 What will happen if I am successful in the company: I want to be offered with a better
position in the Renault Group.
 What will happen if I am not successful in the company: I need completely certain that
Renault understands that maybe the problem depends on the market or the competition;
TASK 3

Topics that are going to be discussed:

 Cultural differences between the incoming CEO and Japanese culture

 Eliminating jobs and factories
 Take position of the Renault group if Carlos Ghosn is successful at Nissan.
 Period of time in order to get results.

Unit 3: Dilemma and Decision

TASK 1

Our delegated team is recommending to go towards production of new models that include a
modern technology, providing lighter motorbikes, accessible to a younger category of customers.

Write it up.

In the upcoming period of time the selling of our products is decreasing week by week, and this is a
worrying trend. Customers that still come towards our motorbikes are getting older, and possible
new clients tend to look over modern motorbikes.

This gives me an overview on our company, and we have to reorient our strategies to marketing
analysis and change some production lines, trying to bring innovations and attract upcoming
generations to our globally recognized enterprise.

As a finish note I would like to recommend that Harley Davidson have to go with the market flow
instead of keeping strictness to the old loyal customers.

Recently Romania celebrated 100 years since the Unification with its historical provinces

In the beginning of this year Romania took on Council of the European Union Presidency for the
upcoming 6 months in which time United Kingdom is due to withdraw from the it.

Simona Halep stays on the first place of the Women’s Tennis Association rankings.

Write it up

After long talks and consultations with all shareholders, we concluded on a final candidate as a Chief
Executive Officer at Better Prices. The past group meetings analyzed all possible candidates and the
best one would be Marjorie Sweetman, because she decided to take good positions and promised
positive results that are in our interest.

Even though she doesn’t put out staff costs on the first place at the beginning, she will definitely
improve efficiency in the long term growth, and in our opinion that is the easiest approach to reach
a final point.

Nowadays Camisea is run by a consortium of gas companies led by Pluspetrol (Argentine), Hunt Oil(
USA), and Repsol (Spain). The companies released plans to expand the project even further into the
reserve, including seismic testing, detonation of explosives and new exploratory wells.

The companies cannot guarantee the safety of the tribes, even though the work contractors
intentioned to ensure that the tribes have the right to be consulted.

The greed for black gold is very hard to stop, and the project continued even after United Nations
called for “immediate suspension”. After years of multidisciplinary research, the project adhered to
environmental and social standards and it continues to be fundamental to Peru’s economic growth.

I’m not entirely sure where I’m heading but I want to have moved forward from where I am now.

Also, I find it unreasonable in this dynamic world we live in now to make such long term plans,
because we can use the resources we are given in a more productive way. The whole point is to be
in ten years where you wouldn’t even dare to dream ten years ago.
