Question 1
Economic system is a nation’s system for allocating its resources among its citizens, both
individuals and organisation. They are used to control the five factors of production.
a) Explain in detail the FIVE factors of production.
b) Discuss the THREE types of economic system. Give TWO examples of countries that
practice each economic system.
c) What are the advantages and disadvantages of each system?
d) How do countries like China, Mexico and Sweden control their factors of production?
Explain any TWO of the factors of production for each economic system.

Question 2
Social responsibility is a concept that addresses the overall way in which a business
attempts to balance its commitments to relevant group and individuals in its environment. It
is an important and effective tool to benefit the society and company.

a) Choose a company in Malaysia that implements corporate social responsibility (CSR)


programmes.
b) Explain in detail the CSR activities/ programmes of the selected company in part (a).
c) Do you think that CSR is good for a business? Justify your answer.
d) There are certain companies that have the perception that CSR will not benefit their
companies. With that, give an example of a company that refuse to participate in
CSR programmes. Briefly explain.

Question 3
Secret Recipe Cakes and Café Sdn. Bhd. has now become a popular household name
following its debut in Malaysia since 1997. Throughout the years, it has successfully
established its brand name, not only in Malaysia, but in many countries. Discuss with your
group members and answer the questions that follow:

a) Provide a background of the business and founder.


b) Describe how a small business managed to develop into a well-known cakes and
café chain it has today. You may need to include the challenges faced by the
business or founder and how they overcome it.
c) In your opinion, what are the key characteristics of a successful entrepreneur.

Question 4
Top Glove Corporation Berhad is a rubber glove manufacturer, founded in Malaysia in 1991
by Tan Sri Dr. Lim Wee Chai. Today, it has emerged as the world’s largest manufacturer of
gloves and constantly expanding its business scope. Discuss with your group members and
answer the questions that follow:

(a) Provide a corporate profile of Top Glove Corporation Berhad.


(b) Provide some examples or activities to show that Top Glove Corporation Berhad is a
multinational firm.
(c) Describe various kinds of competitive advantage that enable Top Glove Corporation
Berhad to internationalise their business activities.
(d) The awareness of healthcare and hygiene is driving the demand for rubber gloves.
Give one recent real life example on how this health and hygiene awareness affects
Top Glove business.

Question 5
After being employed for few years, you and your friend have decided to leave your jobs and
set up your own business. You are well aware that a good business plan undoubtedly acts
as a dynamic blueprint for running and expanding your business. To ensure that your
business plan is well written, you are going to begin with developing business ideas and
screening the business ideas. In your presentation, you are required to discuss in detail how
you and your friend come up with new business ideas and the FIVE parts of screening
process.

Question 6
Dyson Ltd. is a British technology company established by James Dyson in 1991. The
company’s main activity is to design and manufacture household appliances such as vacuum
cleaners, hair dryers and others. The advent of modern appliances created by Dyson save a
great deal of time and human labour. Indirectly, it helps to improve the quality of human life.
Discuss with your group members and answer the questions that follow:

a) Provide a brief company background of Dyson Ltd.


b) Identify one Dyson’s product that interests you. Outline and explain the four key
areas of utility of that product.
c) Based on the product you have mentioned in (b), identify and explain one type of
competition faced by Dyson. You may need to include some examples as well.
d) What forces in the external environment have created opportunities or challenges for
Dyson? Explain.

Instructions:

Work in group, each group will have maximum of 5 members. No report is required but
students need to submit the softcopy of the slide presentation. The assessment consists of
6% for presentation skills, 3% for slides, and 6% for content. Refer to the assignment &
