General Information:
The Advanced Construction Technologies class consists of five modules. You will
have a theory and practical component for each module.
Completing the theory portion of the modules:
The theory portion will be completed in class (on line) on designated
days. These assignments must be completed before you will be able to
work in the shop on the project relating to these.
The assignments and related resources are located in this Google Site.
Your assignments will be submitted through the Brightspace (D2L)
dropbox with the same code/name that will be at the top of the
assignments. Your teacher will show you how to access these.
The theory portion will be completed independently by the students. You
may work collaboratively on these, but each person must submit their
own copy to their own dropbox.
If you have down time in the lab, start working on the next assignment to
make efficient use of time.
All course outlines, notes, and assignments will be posted in this Site.
Keep checking in to this Site for updates, how-tos, etc that will be added
throughout the semester. KEEP CHECKING YOUR BRIGHTSPACE
(D2L) for updates on your marks!!
You must wear safety glasses when in the shop.
You will need a pencil for every class.
Footwear for working in the Construction Lab is closed toe shoes and low heels.
You are responsible for finding out what you have missed. If you miss a test or
assignment that was due, you are responsible for getting these completed.
Due dates will be set for projects and must be followed. If you will not be done on
time, arrange with the instructor to come in during extra lab time to get your
project completed on time.
The lab will be open most days by 8 AM and for at least 1 hour after school.
Let your teacher know when you would like to use the shop during these
extra times.
You will have to pass the Safety Quiz with at least 80% in order to work in the
lab. You will also be required to return the signed Shop Safety Contract before
working in the lab.
You cannot use any power equipment in the construction lab until you have received the
demonstration on it and have been checked out on it (instructor present while you
demonstrate safe use of it).
COURSE OUTLINE:
CON3120: Tool Maintenance
Prerequisite: CON1010
Students develop skills in preventative maintenance by routinely
inspecting and servicing production tools and equipment.
COURSE EVALUATION:
NOTE: All assessment items for project construction are listed here as a composite mark
but are itemized separately on the marking rubric.
Before a reassessment is granted to a student, corrective action will be required so that the student can gain
a more thorough understanding of the content and/or improve upon a skill/concept. This can be achieved by
one or more of the following: developing a learning plan, corrective instruction, relearning concepts, practice,
change in learning strategy (Including attendance), and participating in tutorials. Departments may add
further criteria for the student to accomplish to ensure curricular understanding prior to the student
completing a reassessment.
