KF Piezo Film is based on KF Polymer (polyvinylidene fluoride) which is manufactured and polarized by Kureha.
Piezoelectric films convert mechanical fource into an electrical charge of proportionate amplitude and
frequency. Conversely an applied voltage will result in a proportionate mechanical defomration at the applied
frequency. The film is also pyroelectric, converting absorbed heat into a proportionate charge.

Piezoelectricity “Artificial Muscle”

Kureha KF Piezo Film is an uniaxial stretched and polarized polyvinylidenefluoride

(PVDF) film. This film is ferroelectric polymer which has a ß type crystal (fig. 1) and
which shows remarkable D-E hysteresis (fig. 2). At the remanent-polarization state,
piezoelectricity and pyroelectricity occur.

Anisotropy of Piezoelectricity
KF Piezo Film can also be supplied in custom configurations
including thickness. Patterned conductive silver and silver
carbon alloy inks, protective laminations and lead
attachment options available

Since KF Piezo Film is uniaxially oriented, the piezoelectricity

exhibits a strong anisotropy. The d-constant is the greatest when
the film is stretched along the machine direction. The anisotropy

is expressed asd =d31cos2 +d32sin2. The ratio of d32/d31 is

In -phase crystal, PVDF chains have polarity and stack in parallel formation. Consequently, -phase crystal has the
largest dipolar-moment and is used for ferroelectric applications. -phase crystal is produced by heat treatment of
-phase crystal. -phase crystal has polarity similar to
-phase crystal.

KF Polymer W#2200 (P(VDF / TrFE) Piezo
polymer)
Supplied in either powder form, or in a variety of
piezoelectric polymer configurations, KF-2200 is
also based on Kureha’s unique PVDF processing
technology. Copolymer of vinylidene fluoride &
trifluoroethylene (P(VDF/TrFE)) exhibits excellent
piezoelectric and pyroelectric properties. The
copolymers very unique properties allow the
material to be solvent cast, extruded, sprayed, and
otherwise fabricated in a variety of shapes (ie
tubes, cylinders, fiber, wire or cable, or as
piezoelectric conformal coatings).

Unlike homopolymer, the PVFD/TrFE Copolymer

does not require chain orientation through a
stretching process to achieve high polarization. The Chemical Name : Poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene)
lack of mechanical orientation makes copolymer Composition : VDF/TrFE = 75/25 mol%
