1 Product Overview

This document describes the Expansion Module (EM) EM-C/63×E1/T1-A.

1.1 Purpose
This EM can be used together with the Circuit Emulation Service (CES) Service
Module (SM). It provides the physical access for the E1/T1 interfaces.

It consists of the following features:

• Connectors

It contains two Low Force Helix (LFH) connectors for the use of the E1/T1
interfaces.

• Support for the ports type 2 and 4 of the GR-CORE-1089

• 1+1 protection function

Two SM-CES cards share one EM-CES.

This module supports the following modes:

• 63X_E1_CES

It provides 63 E1 interfaces for an unprotected CES SM.

• 63X_T1_CES

It provides 63 T1 interfaces for an unprotected CES SM.

• 63X_E1_CES_PROT

It provides 63 E1 interfaces for a CES SM with the SM protection.

• 63X_T1_CES_PROT

It provides 63 T1 interfaces for a CES SM with the SM protection.

1.2 Hardware and Software Compatibility

This unit can be used in an SPO 1410 subrack only, and managed by the
software release of 3.0 and later.

2 Function Description

Figure 2 shows the main functions of the unit.

The CES-EM is used for the port expansion to the CES-SM. It is connected to
the E1 patch panel with an E1 cable, and the T1 patch panel with an T1 cable.

4 Power

The maximum power consumption of the unit is less than 1 W.

Light Emitting Diodes

The unit front panel is provided with two types of Light Emitting Diodes (LED):

MF LED Red colored LED used to indicate a unit failure

AC LED Green colored LED used to indicate the active state

Yellow colored LED used to indicate the standby state

6 Patch Panel

Patch panel provides signal interface translation from high density connector
(LFH) to user connectors (1.0/2.3, KRONE, BT-43, or RJ45).

There are five types of patch panels can be used for Ericsson SPO 1410.
Figure below is the front panel 32×T1-LFH-RJ45, one of the five types.
