FIELD TRIP to

Buehler Planetarium
Seminole State College
by Third Grade Classes at Heathrow Elementary

Dear Parent/Guardian:

To support and enrich our curriculum, our students will go on a field trip to the Buehler
Planetarium at Seminole State College. Students will investigate different aspects of our
nearest star, the Sun. Students will learn about the gravity of the Sun and how it keeps
the planets and countless other solar system objects locked into place around it.
Students will understand the colors and temperatures of other stars and how these two
characteristics are tied to each another, as well as experience the immense size of many
of the stars in our galaxy. We will also view the Milky Way from the top down to
investigate the nucleus, spiral arms, and its supermassive black hole! It will be very
exciting!!

The cost of the trip for students is $7.00 and $8.00 for chaperones (if chosen to
chaperone we will send a chaperone form and directions to pay). Please return
permission slips and pay online by Friday, February 15, 2019. We will depart Heathrow
at 10:00 a.m. and return at approximately 12:00 p.m. We will be back to school in time
to have lunch as normal.

The Buehler Planetarium permits each class to bring five chaperones on this trip. If you
are interested in chaperoning, please indicate so on the form below. Remember that a
chaperone must be on our SCPS Approved Dividend List prior to the field trip. There will
also be a chaperone agreement form to be signed before participation. Teachers will
notify those parents who will be chaperones by Tuesday, February 19th. Classes will go
on the following dates:

*** Students are asked to not wear sneakers with flashing lights. These disrupt the
performance.
Students may also wish to bring a sweater or jacket, as the planetarium is kept at a
temperature of 72 degrees. ***
