Please include in your proposal.

1. A description of the mission/purpose of the event. Please also provide a

brief history, if applicable.

Parking Day is Friday September 21st, which is a nationwide event to spark creativity, interaction and art by
temporarily taking over public space (mostly street parking spaces). In Oakland, an organization called WOBO (Walk
Oakland, Bike Oakland) does outreach to businesses and community organizations to participate and collectively
market throughout all of Oakland.

2. Describe how your project will directly benefit the merchants and
property owners in the district.

At Luka's, last year we collaborated with BANDALOOP to use the Great Wall of Oakland (wall used for projections)
as a dance space. BANDALOOP is a vertical dance group that uses ropes and harnesses to enable dancers to
suspend in the air to perform, it's truly amazing if you haven't seen it. We shut down our/Luka's parking lot and take
over four parking spaces to provide a free public art performance to our community. Our plan this year is to host
three 10-15 minute performances on the hour with music and spoken word in between.

BANDALOOP donates their time and has a grant for lighting. Luka's donates the parking lot space and pulls permits
and insurance. The building owners provide access to their roof. Outreach to local restaurants to feature a drink
special to donate to BANDALOOP to help fundraise, as well as promote local restaurants. It's a great collaboration
between all the stakeholders in our community to provide free public art.

3. Outline how your project will improve the image of the Broadway corridor
in a demonstrable way.
Uptown is the birthplace of Oakland Art Murmur, which Luka’s helped form in 2007 with the collaboration of local art
galleries. Oakland First Friday and The Great Wall of Oakland was an offshoot of OAM and grew organically. This
event continues to bring free local art to the Uptown area and energizes the Great Wall of Oakland, which is now
used for dance since the GW projector is now part of ProArts and no longer projecting on the wall.

This BANDALOOP project is supported by the Oakland City Council and funded by the City of Oakland's Cultural
Funding Program. Visit Oakland’s Kiosk will be “parked” in one of the parking spaces.

4. Describe what marketing strategies you will employ to advertise your

project and how your project plans to advance the CBD brand.

Print media including posters and flyers have sponsorship opportunities. Online marketing in social media as well.
All sponsors will be acknowledged with logo brand awareness, social media shout outs and at the event as well.
Poster space at the event is available, as well as acknowledgement by the emcee.

BANDALOOP has many connections to artists and art organizations. We will also promote to local community
groups organizations. Local Uptown businesses will also promote on social media.

5. Provide a description of your target audience.

This is a local community event and outreach will focus on artists groups, bike organizations, neighborhood
community groups and city administration/officials.

Include a full project budget and a breakdown of how you intend to spend the
sponsorship dollars.
