METALLIC TANKS AND
ACCESSORIES
FOR DISTRIBUTION
TRANSFORMERS

The company was founded in 1977 and is primarily active in the

manufacture of metallic tanks for distribution and power
transformers, electrical equipment, metallic towers for power
lines of up to 400 kV, metallic towers for lighting and
telecommunications and metallic structures for electrical
substations.
The company currently possesses modern facilities with a total
surface area of 20,000 m².
It uses the best technology and modern robotic machinery in order
to manufacture a wide range of diverse orders, in addition to
employing welders who have been certified by CENIM.
Our technical department provides our customers with attention
and advice in accordance with their needs, in addition to
dedicating itself to the analysis and design of new products (R&D)
and the development and adaptation of existing products to the
standards of each country and electrical companies.

FINS
(CORRUGATED WALLS)
CORRUGATED WALLS (FINS)
The corrugated walls (fins) are designed to be used on 25KVA to 10-12MVA
transformer tanks. They provides the transformer with appropriate and long-lasting
cooling, and most transformer manufacturers now use this system in their
calculations and designs.

FAMMSA currently operates two totally automated and robotised lines for the
manufacture of fins, enabling the company to meet all levels of demand and to
offer unbeatable quality.

The corrugated walls of a tank may be manufactured one by one to be assembled

and erected (welded) afterwards or all the panels may be joined together to be
assembled in a vertical position.

It is also possible to manufactured the fins with embossment on each fin, with or
without welding, thereby providing greater stability to the tank system as a whole.

Corrugated walls are normally supplied with a 6mm to 8mm reinforcing rod
welded to the upper part of each fin on both sides of the panel. For export orders,

tolerance. Furthermore, and at the behest of the customer,
watertightness testing may be carried out using dye penetrants. Likewise, and for shipments of finned panels by sea (containers) the boxes are
packed and duly protected to prevent oxidation during transportation.

Metallic corrugated tanks have been used in Europe for over 30 years and
have led to transformers becoming smaller and lighter and consequently
more economical. The elasticity of the tank walls allows for a maximum
pressure of 0.5 kgf/cm2.

All tanks for distribution transformers, covers and conservators are

manufactured in accordance with the designs provided by customers and
comply with international welding standards. Most processes are conducted
using numerically controlled and robotized machinery, in addition to the
presence of highly experienced and CENIM accredited welders.

All units manufactured are tested exhaustively for pressure using penetrant
liquids to check watertightness and the non-existence of welding pores.

The quality department is entrusted with conducting the control of

measurements and tolerance prior to the painting process. Later inspections
of the corresponding thickness and hardening of the paintwork are carried
out, in addition to a final visual inspection prior to shipment.

PAINTING
After having conducted the corresponding tests and
checks the tanks are prepared for the final painting
process: depending on the painting process the tanks are
cleaned, phosphated and blasted to a degree of Sa 2½ or
Sa 3.

We use different painting methods and procedures:

inmersion, flow-coating, airless, dust painting etc.
depending on the desired final finish and always in
accordance with ISO 12944: C3, C4, C5-I, C5-M.
Likewise, different finishing colours may be used.

If the customer so desires, the tanks may also be supplied

with a HOT GALVANISED finish.
METALLIC TANKS FOR POWER TRANSFORMERS
All the metallic tanks for power transformers, covers, conservators and accessories
are manufactured in accordance with the designs provided by customers and
comply with international welding standards. Most processes are conducted using
numerically controlled and robotized machinery, in addition to the presence of
highly experienced and CENIM accredited welders.

The welding of all the units manufactured is tested to detect possible pores and
flaws: penetrant liquids, radiographies, magnetic particles, etc.
