polygon.
b. Determine the sum of the Interior Angles and Exterior Angles of a Convex
Polygon.
c. Relate the relationship of exterior and interior angles of a convex polygon in a

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Interior and Exterior Angles of a Convex Polygon
Reference: Geometry Week 4.pdf
Materials: Visual Aids

III. LESSON PROPER

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY LEARNER’S ACTIVITY
A. Daily Routine
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Classroom management
4. Checking of attendance
5. Review

B. Priming
Class I want you to get a sheet of a
paper. On a sheet of paper draw a
pentagon.

a) How many sides does it have? 5 sides

b) How many vertices does it have? 5 vertices
c). Where are the interior angle?

d). Where are the exterior angle?

C. Activity
In finding the sum of the interior
angle we use (n – 2)(180°) wherein n
is the number of sides of a regular
polygon.

For example

1. Find the sum of interior angle of the Since pentagon is a 5-sided polygon,
regular pentagon. therefore n = 5.

Substituting the value of n.

(n – 2)(180°)
= (5 – 2) (180°)
= (3)(180°)
= 540°

Therefore the sum of a regular pentagon is

540°.

2. Find the sum of the interior angle of Since hexagon is a 6-sided polygon,
the regular hexagon. therefore n = 6.

Substituting the value of n.

(n – 2)(180°)
= (6 – 2) (180°)
= (4)(180°)
= 720°

Therefore the sum of a regular pentagon is

720°.

3. Find the sum of the interior angle of Since octagon is a 8-sided polygon,
the regular octagon. therefore n = 8.

Substituting the value of n.

(n – 2)(180°)
= (8 – 2) (180°)
= (6)(180°)
= 1080°

Therefore the sum of a regular pentagon is

1080°.

In finding the measure of one interior

angle we use (n – 2)(180°)/n wherein
n is the number of sides of a regular
polygon.

For example

1. Find the measure of one interior n = 5

angle of the regular pentagon.
Substituting the value of n.
(n – 2)(180°)/n
= (5 – 2) (180°)/5
= (3)(180°)/5
= 540°/5
=108°
Therefore the measure of one interior angle
of a regular pentagon is 108°.

2. Find the measure of one interior n = 9

angle nonagon.
Substituting the value of n.
(n – 2)(180°)/n
= (9 – 2) (180°)/9
= (7)(180°)/9
= 1260°/9
=140°
Therefore the measure of one interior angle
of a regular pentagon is 140°.

3. Find the measure of one interior n = 7

angle of the regular heptagon.
Substituting the value of n.
(n – 2)(180°)/n
= (7 – 2) (180°)/7
= (5)(180°)/7
= 1260°/7
=180°
Therefore the measure of one interior angle
of a regular heptagon is 180°.

The sum of the exterior polygon is

360°. In finding the measure of one
exterior angle polygon we use 360°/n
wherein n is the number of sides of a
regular polygon.

For example
Since the sum of the exterior angle of a
Find the measure of one exterior angle regular polygon is 360°, we will divide the
of the regular hexagon. sum by the number of sides of the given
polygon.

n=5

Substituting the value of n.

5 1
360°/n
=360°/5
= 72° or
2
4 m1  m2  m3  m4  m5  360
X + X + X + X + X =360°
3 5x = 360°
X= 72°

Therefore, the measure of one exterior

angle of a regular pentagon is 72°.

n=6
2. Find the measure of one exterior
angle of the regular hexagon. Substituting the value of n.
360°/n
=360°/6
= 60°

Therefore, the measure of one exterior

angle of a regular hexagon is 60°.

n=8
3. Find the measure of one exterior
angle octagon. Substituting the value of n.
360°/n
=360°/8
= 45°
Therefore, the measure of one exterior
angle of a regular octagon is 45°.

D. Analysis

What is the relationship between the

interior angle and exterior angle?

1 An interior angle of a polygon is always

supplementary to an exterior angle at its
vertex, therefore they would up to 180°.

F. Application

Class I will divide you into 5 group

groups. Each group will receive a
board and a marker. I have here (5)
questions and it is divided into (3)
rounds (EASY, AVERAGE, and
DIFFICULT).
The EASY ROUND consisting of (2)
questions. Each item should be
answered in (15) seconds only. The
equivalent points for each correct
answer is 2 points.

The AVERAGE ROUND also

consisting of (2) questions. Each item
should be answered in (30) seconds
only. The equivalent points for each
correct answers is 3 points.

The DIFFICULT ROUND is consisting

of only (1) question and it should be
answered in (1) minute. The equivalent
points for this round is 5 points.

Are my instructions clear?

EASY ROUND
1. b. 360°
1. What is the sum of the exterior angle
of a regular polygon?

a. 180° c. 270°
b. 360° d. 540°
2. d. (n – 2)(180°)
2. What is the formula in getting the
sum of the interior angle of a regular
polygon?

a. 180°/n c. (n – 2)(180°)/n
b. 270°/n d. (n – 2)(180°)

AVERAGE ROUND
1. 1440°
1. What is the sum of the interior angle
of the regular decagon?
2. 1620°
2. What is the measurement of an
exterior angle of a regular undecagon?

DIFFICULT ROUND

1. Each interior angle of a regular 1. 12 sides

polygon is 150°. How many sides do a
polygon has?

G. Values Integration

How are you going to relate the topic

in with the relationship of the attitude (students’ answer may vary)
of a person to the people around?

It shows that the attitude of a person

represents the interior angle and the
good people around represents the
exterior angle. If person connects
with the good people probably that
person will have a STRAIGHT, good
and safe road to success.

IV. EVALUATION
Directions: Solve each problem completely.

has?
4. The sum of the interior angles of a convex polygon is triple the sum of its exterior
angles. How many sides do the polygon has?
